Some good words from a great coach. Don't ever forget to take care of yourself.
Learned helplessness is one of the most dangerous traits you can observe in someone. It is also considered an underlying cause of both burnout and depression.
When someone truly believes they are “powerless” to create change, it impacts everyone else around them, especially if they are in a position of leadership. They begin to become nearly completely dependent on others helping them, and believe nearly every undertaking is “too difficult,” or that negative events are inevitable and that there is no solution.
Understand that nobody is ever truly “helpless.” If you are willing to continually put skin in the game, and actually take a stand for something good things generally happen.
On the other hand, if you’re content sitting on the sidelines, playing it safe, engaging in gossip, and never putting your name, reputation or skills on the line- you reside in the “luke warm” waters of inefficiency and inefficacy.
Nothing changes unless you do. Nothing improves if you don’t try. Nothing adds value, like value added.
So if you’re feeling “stuck,” now is the time to do something about it. Be accountable to yourself, and do something that stretches your comfort zone today- regardless of what you think others will say about it.
Move the needle!
