✨Went on a snowshoeing adventure this morning with a friend and we came across a heart in a tree! Nature loves to be a part of our lives, even in the winter. ❄️
So many people say they don’t like being outside in the winter, but I love being in nature getting exercise during this time for many reasons.
Here are some benefits of snowshoeing and why I love it:
🏃🏻♀️➡️Improves circulation and stamina which helps reduce the risk of heart disease.
🏃🏻♀️➡️More calories are burned than walking or running the same speed, due to the added resistance of snow to where you need to lift your legs a little higher than normal. The estimated calories burned ranges from 400 to 1,000 depending on the terrain and pace.
🏃🏻♀️➡️It’s low impact and stress for your joints due to walking on soft snow.
🏃🏻♀️➡️More of your whole body than just your legs are engaged. Your core is engaged to help maintain balance on the uneven terrain, and if you add poles to the workout because your upper arms and shoulders will also be engaged.
🌳It boosts your mood exercising out in nature by releasing endorphins within your body, helping battle winter blues.
🌳Being out in nature with a calming environment decreases cortisol levels which is the primary stress hormone. Nature heals.
