ICYMI: JFS CEO Katie Hanley appeared on FOX61 News last night to discuss the immense strain that SNAP delays and reductions are placing on families who already struggle to make ends meet. Reporter Solen Aref interviewed Katie from the Anja Rosenberg Kosher Food Pantry. Thank you to FOX61 for raising awareness of this critical, ongoing community need.

Food pantries across Connecticut are hoping the government shutdown ends soon. Regardless of when it ends, the strain on families won't disappear immediately.

🍂 Fall is a season of gratitude—and this year, one of urgency.

With federal SNAP benefits under threat, more families are struggling to afford groceries. Nearly 1 in 10 Connecticut residents relies on SNAP, and 40% of households still can’t cover basic expenses.

Our Compassion in Action – Fall 2025 newsletter shares how JFS is responding: increasing capacity at our Anja Rosenberg Kosher Food Pantry, coordinating with local partners, and ensuring that families have access to nutritious food with dignity.

We’re proud of what we’re able to offer at JFS, but as a supplemental food pantry, we can’t fill the gap left by the sudden loss of SNAP. With SNAP benefits paused during the government shutdown, families across our community are turning to local food pantries for help.

In this video, JFS CEO Katie Hanley offers an inside look at what our pantry provides and how you can make a difference right now.
