When I started raising amaryllis bulbs I didn’t know that they were African succulents. This bulb must be 10 years old. It started as a single bulb in one pot. Today I separated the bulbs into 4 plants. This largest bulb is the mother plant. In theory it is possible to grow multiple new plants from a single bulb by dividing the base of the bulb with a sharp clean knife. The cleaved segments are spread apart. Chopsticks are perfect for this and generally highly useful when killing weeds and transplanting cacti. I dusted with sulfur powder to avoid fungal growth. I set it in cactus soil with pumice and perlite. It’s actually a miracle that all the bulbs didn’t rot. I had them on drip watering and regular potting mix. They were perfectly happy! I’ll know in a few months if this worked.
