1. Antioxidants
Antioxidants protect our cells from the wear and tear of daily life. I like NAC (N- acetylcysteine) because it gets converted to the powerful antioxidant glutathione.
2. Acetyl-l-carnitine
Acetyl-l-carnitine can boost energy production in your cells, giving you more energy to get things done.
3. Vitamin B complex
B vitamins play an important role in converting protein and sugar to energy, and they help with cellular repair and production.

With s***m counts on the decline, men are increasingly affected by infertility. Here are four ways to boost male fertility and increase s***m count.

1. Work out, but don’t overdo it
Some studies suggest exercising to the point of exhaustion may reduce s***m count.
2. Stay cool
S***m does better in cooler temperatures, so wear boxers instead of briefs and steer clear of hot tubs.
3. Quit smoking
Among many other negative health effects, smoking has been linked to low s***m count.
4. Consider supplements
Supplements like zinc, B-12, and vitamin C may improve male fertility.

Still searching for that elusive fountain of youth? There may not be a magic pill to keep you young, but supplements can help. Here are some highlights from Dr. Spar's list of the top 10 best anti-aging supplements for men.

CoQ10
This antioxidant has proven to be particularly beneficial for improving the appearance of aging skin. A Japanese study found adults who took CoQ10 reported a reduction in wrinkles.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant that works at a cellular level to protect skin from free radicals. It’s often added to sunscreens because it helps prevent UVB damage.
Resveratrol
This compound found in red wine is sometimes called “the longevity molecule” because it has been shown to lengthen the lifespan of many different animal species.
Vitamin A
Several studies show topical vitamin A reduces wrinkles and other skin damage associated with aging, which is why retinol (a form of vitamin A) is one of the only wrinkle treatments approved by the FDA.

The right nutrition and exercise plan can take you a long way in your quest for stronger, more defined muscles. Here are some scientifically-validated six-pack diet techniques. For more tips and tricks, see Dr. Spar’s blog: http://bit.ly/2LNz1HB

1. Consider intermittent fasting
Restricting your feeding window to 8 hours not only promotes longevity, but it helps you decrease calories. The important thing is to eat healthy within those hours.

2. Eat the rainbow
If you want your body to look and perform like a well-oiled machine, you need to give it the right fuel. This means incorporating a variety of colorful veggies and fruits into your six-pack diet plan.

3. Drink lots of water
We all know that water is necessary for, well, survival, but many of us don’t drink enough of it. It’s always important to maintain hydration, but this is especially true when you’re working up a sweat at the gym.

4. Pack in a post-work out punch
If you’re trying to build muscle, it’s essential that your diet includes a large amount of quality protein. So, on those days when you do a big resistance training workout, don’t fast—refuel with a mix of carbs and protein within a couple hours of finishing your workout.

5. Snack well
When you’re working on a six pack, you’re going to get hungry. And that’s okay! You can snack and still stick to your six-pack diet plan, as long as you make healthy choices.

6. Avoid refined sugar and processed foods
Refined and processed foods are loaded with empty calories that won’t get you any closer to a six pack, and they contain very little in the way of nutrition.

As evidence indicating the significant role genes play in our health piles up, so do the thorny questions about how to use this information. A recent New York Times piece tackles the issue of personal genetic testing and whether we need it. As the article explains, experts recognize the ways these tests help people manage their health while acknowledging their potential to mislead people with "genetic findings that are overblown or irrelevant.” Some, like cardiologist and professor of genomics Dr. Eric Topol, expressed concern that consumers may not be able to tell the difference between legitimate and questionable testing services. Another potential problem cited in the article is the unmitigated distress patients may feel when they receive upsetting results. Still, to Joel C. Eissenberg, a professor and associate dean in the department of biochemistry and molecular biology at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, the lack of physical side effects associated with genetic testing is reassuring. “I’m a big fan of the democratization of health care delivery, wherever it’s not a risk for the patient,” he told the Times. People are using a growing stream of genetic data to help them make better health decisions. But some findings may be overblown or irrelevant.

When it comes to Dr. Spar's approach to medicine, he likes to talk about the 5 P’s: Predictive, Preventive, Personalized, Participatory, and Purpose-Driven. The annual check-up that most men consider to be adequate for health care simply isn’t designed to prevent disease and reduce mortality, so practitioners and patients need to take a more comprehensive view. Providers need to work not just to recommend lifestyle changes, but to help their patients optimize implementing them. In this way, we not only help them get healthier, but we also improve their chances of achieving their goals. For more on his 5 P’s of medicine, watch this video!
