A new patient recently asked me how I came to being an acupuncturist - it can be a long story but the shorter version is that I randomly picked up a book during undergrad called Between Heaven and Earth and I really connected to what it said about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Sometime after I moved to Los Angeles in 1995, I met an acupuncturist in yoga class and eventually made an appointment. I had really great and fairly quick results for my health issue and was really I inspired by my experience, and I continued to get treatments when new health concerns popped up. Probably 5 years later, I decided to go to school here in Los Angeles at Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I graduated in 2005 and here I am now. Have you had acupuncture before? Or have any questions and I can respond on another post as others may have the same question. 💫💫💫

It’s officially spring - seems a little early but when looking it up, it seems to have to do with the leap year - the extra day in February gets us caught up with the fact that a year is a bit more than 365 days a year. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Spring is a time of upward and outward energy - much like the little leaves I see popping up on many of our trees and shrubs that lost leaves in the winter. The extended daylight shifts our energy a bit also - we may find ourselves more inclined to be active a bit later with the brighter evenings. What’s your favorite part about spring. I love all the plants and flowers. I’m also enjoying our current shift to warmer temperatures ☀️

How is your goal going? Last week (or so) I posted about my January goal of doing 20 minute of either foam rolling, stretching/mobility, or yoga everyday. Some of you joined in with your own goal. So far I’ve been able to do it daily and love how I’m changing my evening routine. I’m mostly doing it before bed and therefore less scrolling on my phone in bed. Today I did 20 minutes of yoga (pre-dinner)focused on the lower body and my sweet Little G joined me at the end. I mostly doing this to use my time differently and explore new habits, and see how I feel. I definitely feel more energy and so far look forward to my 20 minutes. The first few days of foam rolling really helped my right upper back so I’ve kept that in rotation. It’s also not too late to start a goal that sounds good to you - maybe a 2 week goal. 💫

Happy 2024 - I started the year deciding that each month I will start a 30 day goal. I saw a TED talk about to years ago - at that time, I started a month of not using any paper to go cups - if I didn’t bring my reusable mug then I didn’t get a tea or coffee when out and about. I continued to do it for the whole year. This month (I started a few days before Jan 1st), I am doing 20 minute of either stretching, foam rolling, or yoga (and any combination of those) each day. So far it’s been great. If you have the Peloton app, there are some great foam rolling classes in the stretching section. You can also filter in that section for mobility classes as well. Anyone want to join me in a 30 day goal? You don’t need to have my same goal (unless you want to) but something that your have wanted to start - why not try it for 30 days? 💫💫💫

One of the highlights this year (outside of giving people acupuncture) was sprucing up the office for all of you this past summer. I still have a few things to add and finish in the next month.

Great Auriculotherapy Wellness Morning at a local business! I made this great chart for the informational flyer. Participants came for either ear acupuncture in the designated lounge area and have a little rest or they could get non-invasive ear seeds and head back back to work. People came for stress, anxiety, low back pain, shoulder pain, peri-menopause symptoms, and some for general wellness (curious about work event but no health issue of concern). It was fun to meet some new people and introduce them to acupuncture and/or ear seeds and power of ear points. I hope they ask me back in the future.
