Merry Christmas from my family to yours. Our office will be closed for the rest of the week to spend time with our families. You can schedule with a virtual provider on sunnypeds.com if you want to avoid urgent cares or the ER. If you have an urgent concern that cannot wait until Monday, you can reach me through the regular phone system. I am praying for health and rest for us all.

We’re constantly learning from kids and their screen time. It has yet to be good. We know any screen with blue light decreases melatonin for up to two hours…now we’re finding their brains are not even growing as expected due to screen time before and during bedtimes. Kids need a rest. Create a central charging area and turn the phones in at night.

Puffy jackets and snow suits are not safe in a car seat. We carried blankets in the car to put around them while we drove.

They just don't need them...not that my kids don't have electronic devices...they do...but they don't have unlimited access to people, internet, you tube, etc. It's too much for their immature brains to process. My oldest is now twelve and has been asking for a good two years when he can have a phone. I say 16 when they're driving and leaving our home by themselves? I don't know, but today is not the day. I feel like this should be the new "Just say no" campaign. Nothing good comes of it. Let kids be kids and save yourself money too!

A new study in Pediatrics found that twelve-year-olds who owned smartphones were more likely to experience depression and obesity and not get enough sleep than their peers without one. Consistent communication with children and teens about smartphones and screen time can help make sure that phones don’t crowd out important activities like exercise, sleep, and quality time with friends and family. Absolutely!

STOP telling kids they are going to get sick when they go outside!
The biggest lies we’ve convinced ourselves to believe is that going outside in the cold is what makes us sick.
Fresh air helps their immune systems, resets moods, and burns energy! Our kids need that. We need that.
So bundle them up.
Double up the socks, zip the snowsuit, and slap on that hat they’ll rip off five minutes later anyway. Then go outside.
The cold won’t make them sick. But keeping them cooped up just might.

The city of west Jefferson informed us this afternoon that we will not have any water to the building this Wednesday until after 12 o’clock. We cannot run a medical clinic without water, so we’ll be closed u lntil after lunch. I’ll be available for telehealth if needed. So much construction around us! I’ll be glad when this is all over!!

For those that choose to vaccinate, all flu and flu mist vaccines are in and available. Flu mist is for kiddos >2 years of age. Flu shots can be give >6 months of age

We also have the RSV antibody shot for babies
