My name is John Twomey. I am 31, married to my high-school sweetheart, and have a corgi named Boone. I have a love for history and the outdoors.
I never thought I would be here in this moment asking for help in finding a new kidney but I am truly grateful to be able to have the opportunity to share my story.
I always imagined having the time to make lasting memories with my wife, my family/ friends and my future children, but life is so short and unpredictable. I find myself at a cross roads, seeking help for a future at this moment I am surely not promised.
I know I am one of many that needs a kidney and do not take this ask for help lightly. But my goal is to keep moving forward as I feel I gave much more to give and still offer in this life.
In the last couple years since my diagnosis, daily tasks have become extremely difficult. My energy is very low which has made it difficult to spend quality time with my family and friends.
I am hopeful I will someday feel better and have the ability, post transplant, to strengthen my mind and body. My wife and I hope to travel to Ireland, where my family is from. One day help others find living donors and start a family of our own
I know that I am one person and as one person I may not have a huge impact in your life, but if anyone was able to help me with a donation that the would make a huge impact in mine and those I share my life with, including those I have not met yet.
Why I Need a Kidney
In March 2021 I went to the urgent care because there was blood in my urine. After lots of tests and and ultrasound I was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease. A uncurable, genetic disease that causes clusters of cysts develop on the kidneys which cause kidney failure Unfortunately, I am at Stage 4 Kidney Disease and eligible to receive a kidney transplant so I amseeking a new healthy kidney. A living kidney transplant is the fastest and best type of transplant for me. Waiting for a deceased donor kidney could take upwards of 5-8 years! You do not have to be a match to give me a kidney. If someone is not a match but is willing to donate a kidney on my behalf, they will find me a matching kidney, and give the other one to another person in need. It’s a swap program essentially saving two lives. If you donate a kidney to me or on my behalf, your costs for hospital and medical care would all be covered. If you don’t aspire to be a kidney donor, you may know someone who could be interested. For this reason, I am asking for you to share my story and the link (above) on your social media and by email. By sharing my story you can help to save my life.Thank you for taking the time to read my story!!!
