My name is John Twomey. I am 31, married to my high-school sweetheart, and have a corgi named Boone. I have a love for history and the outdoors.
I never thought I would be here in this moment asking for help in finding a new kidney but I am truly grateful to be able to have the opportunity to share my story.

I always imagined having the time to make lasting memories with my wife, my family/ friends and my future children, but life is so short and unpredictable. I find myself at a cross roads, seeking help for a future at this moment I am surely not promised.
I know I am one of many that needs a kidney and do not take this ask for help lightly. But my goal is to keep moving forward as I feel I gave much more to give and still offer in this life.

In the last couple years since my diagnosis, daily tasks have become extremely difficult. My energy is very low which has made it difficult to spend quality time with my family and friends.

I am hopeful I will someday feel better and have the ability, post transplant, to strengthen my mind and body. My wife and I hope to travel to Ireland, where my family is from. One day help others find living donors and start a family of our own

I know that I am one person and as one person I may not have a huge impact in your life, but if anyone was able to help me with a donation that the would make a huge impact in mine and those I share my life with, including those I have not met yet.
Why I Need a Kidney

In March 2021 I went to the urgent care because there was blood in my urine. After lots of tests and and ultrasound I was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease. A uncurable, genetic disease that causes clusters of cysts develop on the kidneys which cause kidney failure Unfortunately, I am at Stage 4 Kidney Disease and eligible to receive a kidney transplant so I amseeking a new healthy kidney. A living kidney transplant is the fastest and best type of transplant for me. Waiting for a deceased donor kidney could take upwards of 5-8 years! You do not have to be a match to give me a kidney. If someone is not a match but is willing to donate a kidney on my behalf, they will find me a matching kidney, and give the other one to another person in need. It’s a swap program essentially saving two lives. If you donate a kidney to me or on my behalf, your costs for hospital and medical care would all be covered. If you don’t aspire to be a kidney donor, you may know someone who could be interested. For this reason, I am asking for you to share my story and the link (above) on your social media and by email. By sharing my story you can help to save my life.Thank you for taking the time to read my story!!!

Dear Friends and family!

This has been a much anticipated post! In March 2021 John was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease. An uncurable, genetic disease that causes clusters of cysts to develop on his kidneys resulting in kidney failure. Over time, his kidney disease has become life threatening. His treatment options are limited to dialysis treatments or a kidney transplant.
Hopeful, we find him a living donor soon enough he will not have to go on dialysis.

However, finding a kidney for a transplant is not easy. Just ask the 100,000+ people on the waiting list for a deceased donor kidney like him. Time is not on our side. The average wait time is five years or more for a kidney from a deceased donor. Asking a family member or a friend to consider donating a kidney to him is difficult, but it greatly improves his chances of getting a transplant. A living kidney donation typically lasts longer and has better function.

You might not know a lot about living donation I know we didn’t before kidney disease affected our life. Here’s some basic information about kidney donation:

* You only need one kidney to live a healthy, long life.
* Most donor surgery is done laparoscopically, meaning through tiny incisions.
* The recuperation period is usually fairly quick, generally two weeks.
* The cost of your evaluation and surgery will be covered by my insurance. The hospital can give you extensive information on this.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. If donating a kidney to John is something you would like to consider, or just exploring the process of determining if you are a match for John. There is also a link in my bio that takes you to John’s website where you can access more information along with a questionnaire to see if you’re a good candidate to be his living donor.

You can also contact his transplant center directly at 801-507-9375

However, I know living donation may not be right for everyone but you can still help! Help us by sharing John’s story with everyone you know. At the very least we want to bring awareness to kidney disease and living donation. Thank you for sharing we love you all!

Love John and Ky
