Eighteen years ago, I put on this dress and veil I made, and had a cosmetology student apply more hairspray and Bobby pins than I thought would be possible and made some promises in front of an officiant who did an amazing job for the tiny budget I had. (Whole wedding budget, including cost of dress materials, $450.) It also inspired me to pay it forward by also being as budget friendly as possible as an officiant.
