People get obsessed with pain. I get it - pain is loud, itâs obvious, itâs hard to ignore. But pain isnât the only marker of progress. When someone first comes in, there are things they simply canât do. Then weeks later, theyâre moving more, doing more, tolerating more - sometimes while pain is still there.
That matters. Thatâs progress, even if it doesnât feel like it.
Recovery isnât linear. Youâll have days where things feel great, then a flare-up out of nowhere. That doesnât mean youâve re-injured anything. It usually means the system didnât like something you did, stress went up, load went up, or your nervous system just got a bit louder. Thatâs part of the process, not a sign youâre back to square one.
A lot of people want the quick fix. Sometimes that exists. Often it doesnât. Rehab and manual therapy take time, repetition, and patience. You canât rush biology. You have to trust the process, and you have to trust the person guiding you through it - assuming they actually know what theyâre doing.
Progress isnât always pain-free. Itâs about capacity, consistency, and staying the course â even when itâs frustrating.
