We were honored to welcome U.S. Senator Cory Booker to Harvest: An RWJBarnabas Health Farm to Community Center today in Newark – a city near and dear to the former mayor’s heart. It was inspiring to share the work we’re doing to address food insecurity, expand access to health care, strengthen local economic vitality, and ultimately, build healthier communities.

Mark E. Manigan, President and CEO, RWJBarnabas Health, and Darrell K. Terry, Sr., President and CEO, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey, along with Community Health and External Affairs leadership, joined Senator Booker for a powerful discussion on advancing efforts to address social determinants of health in New Jersey and to share our deep gratitude for the State’s partnership in these endeavors.

After living with an epithelial cancer for years, Maria joined a clinical trial led by Dr. Christian Hinrichs at Rutgers Cancer Institute testing an advanced T cell therapy — reengineering her own immune cells to recognize and destroy tumor cells.

One month after treatment, Maria’s nodules had disappeared and she began to once again experience freedom, energy, and the joy of truly living again.

We were proud to welcome leadership and faculty from Rutgers University—Newark and Rutgers Business School - Newark and New Brunswick – including Rutgers University-Newark Chancellor Dr. Tonya Smith-Jackson – for a meeting of the minds and a tour of Harvest: an RWJBarnabas Health Farm to Community Center, slated to open in Newark early next year.

Together, we explored how our partnership can fuel economic growth for local small businesses and create meaningful experiential learning opportunities for students and our community.

We know we can’t do this alone – partnering with like minded institutions such as Rutgers University ensures we are able to fulfill our mission of building healthier communities, together. We look forward to living out Harvest’s fullest potential alongside the inspiring Rutgers team.

A prestigious, FIRST-ever designation in N.J. as a National Rare Disease Center of Excellence by the National Organization for Rare Disorders, Inc. (NORD) has been achieved by an RWJBarnabas Health hospital!
We congratulate Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School for earning this honor, placing our state among only 26 in the nation to host a NORD Center of Excellence.
