This week, let’s take a look at a fabulous Pilates exercise called the Kneeling Lean Back. It’s great for developing strong knees, back, glutes and quads. It will help with poor posture and back pain.

Tips: engage your core, lean back without arching your back. Squeeze glutes and brace your abs the entire time.

For added fire, add a bicept curl with light weights!

We often say in the studio that Savasana is the hardest pose and we mean it!
This important posture is critical to master, as it helps calm the mind and the body. It’s our longest posture in the series - 2 minutes in the 90 minute class - and is one that helps us as students actually GAIN energy through relaxation.

Beyond that, Savasana can also help improve concentration and promote deep relaxation, reduce stress and lower heart rate. When done with a consistent practice, it may also reduce headaches, fatigue and anxiety.

How to do it:
Lie on your back, heels together and toes flopped open, arms by your side, palms up. Keep eyes open with a soft gaze; breathe normally through the nose. Don’t move or fidget and let go of your thoughts.

How to master it:
Let your thoughts just come and go, no attachment.
Focus on your breath - in for 6 counts, out for 6 counts, always through the nose. Make sure the abdomen is rising and falling (vs just your chest)
Ignore any distractions (sweat, an itch etc)
Imagine a wave gently washing over you, from head to toe, removing any stress, tension, aches or pains.
