For protein, a bodybuilder trying to gain muscle should eat a minimum of 1.8 grams per kilogram of body weight, but up to 2.0-2.2 grams is likely ideal. And if you're on a vegan diet for weight loss, you want this number to be a minimum of 2.2 grams and possibly even higher. How much plant-based protein do you take?

Nimai grew up in Mississippi raised by Argentinian-immigrant Hare Krishna parents. He has been vegetarian since birth, initially for religious reasons, and has never eaten meat. It wasn’t until 2015 that Nimai went completely vegan, cutting out dairy, eggs, and all other animal products. Many might believe this stunted his growth as a bodybuilder, but it did just the opposite.

It depends on the types of vegan foods you eat. Foods like beer, pizza crust, and even sugar are vegan and won't help you lose weight. Being vegan doesn't necessarily mean it's ideal for a cutting workout and diet plan. Whether you are a vegan or carnivore, eating healthy, whole foods and controlling your calorie intake will dictate weight loss.

Making his mark on cricket in his home nation of Australia and abroad, Kane has become a hot property. He's sought after in the exciting short forms of the game and has become a household name. The right-arm medium-fast bowler has represented his nation in 25 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 26 T20 matches (as of March 2021).
He's also broken into the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL). Kane turned vegetarian in 2014 and vegan in 2016. The move to vegetarianism was prompted by a chance encounter with farm animals.

Because of the high volume of resources needed to rear livestock for meat and dairy, an individual vegan diet helps to preserve more than 1.5 million liters of water, 1,000 square meters of forest, and 3,300kg of CO2 every year.
Do you know it takes a whopping 10,910 liters of water to produce just one pound of beef?

Carbohydrates are responsible for performance whilst protein is needed for muscle growth. Both can be important around the workout, so timing might be useful to maximize results.
It’s recommended for muscle growth and recovery purposes that protein is eaten before and after training. An amount of 20g to 30g anywhere from 1 to 3 hours before training would be ideal. A similar amount of protein should be eaten within two hours after a workout.

Getting enough healthy carbs on a vegan bodybuilder diet is fairly easy, as almost every single carb source is plant-based!
Good vegan carb sources include:
- Oatmeal
- Sweet potatoes
- Brown or white rice
- Fruit (High glycemic fruits for post-workout)
- Potatoes
- Whole grains
- High-fiber foods (leafy greens)
- High-carb vegetables
If we had to pick one as our favorite, the award would go to oatmeal. Add some vegan protein powder to it, top with a drizzle of nut butter, and you've got yourself a delicious vegan meal!
