During a difficult time in my life, I walked into a yoga studio and set my intention - to not be so afraid - to trust.
I was referring to my life in general, but then the instructor announced that we were going to practice headstands. I was terrified. As a kid, I was the one who wouldn’t do somersaults or cart-wheels. Suffice it to say, standing on my head was simply not an option either. I was afraid to go upside down, always had been - and that hadn’t changed with age.
When the time came, I leaned into my intention to not be afraid. To trust. The instructor held my ankles and suddenly I was in headstand. It was exhilarating.
I began practicing headstand everyday, and exactly 70 days later, I was able to get into headstand unassisted. I went from being too afraid to even try, to turning my life upside down every day, with well-meaning intention.
As you may have guessed, this story is not about the headstand. It's about facing and overcoming fears, setting intentions and seeing them manifest. That we’ll only know how strong we are when we’re brave enough to challenge ourselves. When we experience this we understand our strength rises to meet the hard changes life sometimes requires. Changes in our health, our relationships and how we interact with the world around us.
When you make a commitment to yourself to create and sustain healthy practices, you transform your life in liberating ways. Having experienced the power of Yoga first hand, the continuation and deepening of my my yoga practice has been to guide you and others like you on your own journey of self-transformation.

Private Yoga Session: $60.00 (60-75 minute sessions)--Offered in person in Carbondale, Illinois, and online anywhere. Private Yoga Sessions are customized for each individual’s needs and goals. Sessions can also include focus in meditation, pranayama, and consultation in well-being, self-care, and holistic health.
Reiki Session: $60.00 (60 minute sessions)--Offered in person in Carbondale, Illinois, and remotely anywhere in the world. Reiki is a gentle service that enables the client to deeply relax. Clients seek out Reiki for balance, centeredness, relaxation, and self-care. Reiki is an ancient practice involving energy work and light touch with wide ranging benefits. Reiki has been recognized by the Mayo Clinic as beneficial.
Wellness Consultation: $90 (90 minute sessions)--Offered in person in Carbondale, Illinois, and remotely anywhere in the world. Dr. Diana Tigerlily and the client will work together to address the client's needs and goals and create a customized lifestyle regimen integrating movement, breathing, mindfulness, optimal foods, and self-care.
Communication Coaching/Consulting $90 (90 minute sessions)--Offered in person in Carbondale, Illinois, and remotely anywhere in the world. Areas of focus include nonviolent communication, conflict resolution, interpersonal communication, and professional communication
About the Instructor:
Diana Tigerlily, Ph.D., E-RYT 200, RYT 500, is a registered yoga teacher, reiki practitioner, wellness consultant, university professor, and founder of Blue Heron Holistics. She works one-on-one (in person and online), and in group classes, with clients, creating a safe space to address the needs and goals of each individual so they may recognize their fullest selves. Tigerlily has completed over 500 hours of yoga training and over 1000 hours of yoga teaching. She has studied with Judy Grier of Yoga East Healing Arts Center in the Kripalu tradition; and Lal Maharajh and Lorrie Conglose at Vastu School of Yoga in the Sivananda tradition. She continues deepening her skills and knowledge as a yogi, reiki practitioner and wellness consultant. Tigerlily holds a Ph.D. in Communication Studies emphasizing Performance/ Embodiment, Gender, and Narrative, and a M.A. in English. She is a faculty member at SIUC where she teaches Yoga philosophy and practice, performance of personal story and spoken word poetry, and gender equity. Tigerlily teaches Sivananda’s Rishikesh Sequence, Meditation, and Yin Yoga group classes. She offers private yoga lessons, Reiki sessions, and holistic wellness consultations, and she is also available for communication consulting, coaching, and editing work. Tigerlily continues to be inspired by the Great Blue Heron as she deepens her yoga journey.
“It’s not about the headstand” -- a message from Diana
My whole life I had been too terrified to go upside down—wouldn’t even do somersaults or cart-wheels, and definitely refused to try standing on my head. During a significantly difficult time in my life, I walked into a yoga studio I'd never been. The instructor invited us to set our intention, and I said to myself, “To not be so afraid. To trust.” I was referring to my life in general, not headstands. However, the universe understood fully because then the instructor announced that we are going to practice headstand. He came over to me, said a few guiding words and before I knew it, I was in headstand. He was holding my ankles, but I was doing it. It was exhilarating. It was a profound moment of insight into my own power. I began practicing headstand everyday, and exactly 70 days later, I was able to get into headstand completely unassisted. I went from never going upside down and being too afraid to even try, to turning my life upside down every day, with intention. I am no longer afraid. I trust myself and my body. I am the strongest I’ve ever been, and I am filled with the deepest gratitude. It's not about the headstand. It's about facing and overcoming fears. It's about the journey of yoga. It's about setting intentions and seeing them manifest. It's about making a commitment to a yoga practice, to myself, to my health, to my life. It's about becoming brave enough to make the changes in my life to be on my path of being my best self. Speaking beyond myself, it's about acknowledging that each of us is strong, even when we think we aren't, and that everyday that we acknowledge our strength, we become stronger. When we make a commitment to ourselves to create and sustain healthy practices, we transform our lives in liberating ways.
