Talk about it Tuesday! 🍁🧡

Fall fun is in full swing here at Play Pals! Themed activities are more than just play, they are an exciting activity at to build speech and language skills! When activities are connected to a theme, children can become more engaged and motivated to participate! The exciting context helps they stay focused and try new words!

🎃Parent Tip: Themed play gives opportunities for vocabulary growth and sentence expansion. Try saying, “The pumpkin is orange and bumpy!” or “Let’s scoop, poor, and stir!”. When children are having fun, they are more likely to explore their voices and learn while they play!

October OT Discovery Day! 🍁💪

What a wonderful time we had washing, scooping, and painting pumpkins!!🎃🧡 This was a rich tactile sensory experience that engaged our sense of touch and helped build our tolerance to new textures, all while working on fine motor skills!

A special thank you to our wonderful team of Occupational Therapists who work so hard to make these magical experiences happen! ✨

Talk about it Tuesday! 🗣️ Let’s talk about story telling language! 📚

Reading with your child isn’t just about books, it’s about building connection and communication! 💓

While you read together, player to label pictures, ask questions, and make predictions. Try saying things like

🗣️ “What do you think will happen next?”
👀 “Where is the puppy hiding?”
💡 “Wow! That truck is so big and red!”

These conversations help your child build vocabulary, sentence structure, and comprehension while making story time fun!

Let’s read together! 📖🔍

🧗 Movement Monday! Let’s talk proprioception! 💪
Proprioception is the internal sense that tells us how much pressure to use, how to move without constantly watching our limbs, and how to feel “grounded” in our bodies.

OT Tip💡: Encourage your child to climb! Whether it’s a playground structure, climbing wall, or couch cushions at home, climbing provides proprioceptive input through the joints and muscles! This boosts coordination and motor planning while being regulating for kids who seek movement or connection to their bodies!

More examples of this input can involve pushing, pulling, lifting, squeezing, and other joint compressing movements!

Let’s get moving! 🏃‍♀️✨

🎶 Talk About It Tuesday! 🎶
Did you know music can be a powerful tool for supporting speech and language? Singing songs helps children practice rhythm, repetition, and new words in a fun and engaging way. 🎵✨

Try singing familiar songs with pauses for your child to “fill in the blank” (like “Twinkle, twinkle, little ___” 🌟). This encourages listening, memory, and expressive language skills. Music therapy isn’t just fun—it’s a playful path to stronger communication! 💬

Thank you to Ms. Erica for filling Play Pals with beautiful songs and big smiles every other Wednesday! 💜

Movement Monday!💪

Did you know swinging, spinning and rocking all give your child important vestibular input? 🌀 This system helps kids with balance, coordination, and knowing where their bodies in space!

Try simple activities like swinging at the park, rolling on the floor, or rocking in a chair to build these skills while keeping play fun and staying regulated! By adding movement breaks into your child’s day, you may notice they’re calmer, more focused, and ready to learn! 📝⛹️🤩

Swing, spin, and rock on! 🥳

Let’s talk sensory play! 🎨🧠

Sensory play isn’t just messy fun, it’s a powerful way to help kids regulate their bodies, emotions, and attention! When children engage in activities like scooping beans, splashing in water, or jumping in the ball pit, they are building critical brain connections that support development and learning! This helps with regulation, body awareness, and motor skills!

💡Tip💡 Shaving cream can be an easy, tactile sensory experience to try at home! Spray it on the table and let your child spread, squish and draw in it! You can add food coloring or hidden toys to make it even more engaging. Use this before transitions (like bedtime or mealtime) or to help reset after a busy or overstimulating moment.

Let’s get messy! 🎨🫟🖌️
