Real Recovery Talk We are here to educate families and loved ones dealing with addiction in any form!

Have you ever walked away from a conversation with your loved one feeling guilty… confused… or somehow responsible for choices you didn’t make?

You’re not weak.
You’re not imagining it.
And you’re definitely not alone.

In the newest episode of Real Recovery Talk, I break down 4 manipulation tactics addicts commonly use—often without even realizing it—against the people who love them most.

These tactics are subtle.
They sound emotional.
They hit right where your heart lives.

And they work especially well on parents, spouses, and family members who are just trying to help.

I know this because I’ve lived on both sides of it.

I used these tactics in active addiction.

And today, I help families recognize them so they can stop enabling—and start healing.

If you’ve ever left a conversation questioning yourself instead of the behavior…
this episode is for you.

2026 is here.

And before anyone starts throwing around resolutions, promises, or pressure…let me ask you something:

Did your loved one get clean and sober in 2025?

If the answer is no—you’re not alone.
And no, this isn’t a failure. It’s information.

This new episode isn’t about forcing change or setting yourself up for disappointment.

It’s about doing something different this year—starting today, January 1st.

Not a massive overhaul.
Not impossible expectations.

But a clear, realistic blueprint for how you, as a family member, can move the needle—while protecting your mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Because yes, you want them sober in 2026.
And I want you intact.

Listen in, take a breath, and let’s start this year from a place of clarity instead of chaos.

As family members and loved ones, we CANNOT allow ourselves to be destroyed by our addict loved one!

NO MATTER WHAT happens, we have to be ok with the outcome. Whatever the outcome might be.

I have witnessed families get DESTROYED by the addict loved ones behaviors.

Family members and loved ones suffer the same consequences!

And you cant even get high!

If it’s Christmas Eve and might be lying awake tonight, this is for you.

While the world feels loud with celebration, so many parents are quietly carrying fear, guilt, and exhaustion—wondering where their child is… if they’re safe… and if this will ever change.
In tonight’s solo episode, I’m speaking directly to the parents who are struggling right now.

We talk about:

• Why Christmas Eve can feel heavier than any other night
• The lies fear tells us when everything goes quiet
• What actually helps when you feel powerless

This episode isn’t about fixing anything.
It’s not about answers or advice.

It’s about getting through tonight—with a little more peace, perspective, and hope.

If you love a child who is struggling with addiction or destructive behavior, you are not alone.

And this story isn’t over.

Should you panic when they relapse?

I would not use the work "panic" I would take note of it and start to come up with a plan.

Ideally you would already have a plan put into place for if and when they do relapse.

That is going to be your best bet.

Some stories stay with you long after the episode ends.
This is one of them.

In this episode, Ricky opens up about watching his mom drink herself to death—and what that did to him as a child.

Not just emotionally…
But mentally.
Spiritually.
At his core.

This conversation isn’t about shock value.

It’s about understanding.

If you grew up in a home where alcoholism was “normal”…
If you loved someone who went to treatment but never truly healed…
If you’ve ever wondered why addiction impacts families the way it does…

Ricky’s story brings clarity.

Clarity around behaviors.
Clarity around trauma.
Clarity around the long-term impact addiction has on children and families.

And most importantly, this episode offers something many people don’t realize they’re still searching for:

A path to turn unresolved trauma into healing.

Should I try and fix them or should I work on myself first?

There is NO FIXING them, that is not your job. That is their job.

You are better off focusing on yourself.

Should I stay quiet to avoid conflict?

Chances are you have stayed quiet for far to long. It is ok to speak up, just understand that you may not get the outcome that you are hoping for.

Seek wisdom and tlak to professionals first, let them guide you!

Should I allow my addict loved on in my home or meet them in public?

That depends.

Is there is always tension and high stress within the home, then I would meet in public.
If you are able to have a productive conversation inside the home, then it should be fine.

Only you can be the judge of that....
