Seasonal changes worsen symptoms for around 64% of those already struggling with a pre-existing mental illness or substance use disorder (SAMHSA). Although local resources may have differing hours during the holidays there is ALWAYS support available for you during this time.
Here are a few tips for self care to get through the season:
๐ observe and acknowledge changes or worsening of symptoms during this time. This is normal and you are not alone.
๐ lean on the supports that you have. Whether thatโs family, friends, a trusted behavioral healthcare provider, a mentor, a spiritual practice, or an emergency crisis line ALL are valid forms of support
๐ continue to practice harm reduction strategies to manage or reduce substance use
