A few more highlights from the APDA Washington DC trip (we unfortunately did not get pictures with every office that we met with).

Being in the congress and senate office buildings and meeting with our elected representatives reminded us just what an incredible country we live in. The fact that at any time we can petition our representatives at the national level, meet with them (or their staff) in their offices, and have our concerns heard is a privilege I hope never to take for granted.

Had the chance to meet with Representative Neal Dunn’s office today. Mr. Tucker Williamson (pictured below) was super helpful and attentive while I explained the issues currently facing our industry. Thank you Rep Dunn for your support of our industry and for taking the time to hear from your constituents and small businesses! Fun fact: Representative Dunn’s first career was as a urologist. He also served in the Army for 11 years (active) as a physician.

How long have portable x-rays been around? For over 105 years it turns out! During WW1 Marie Curie created the first mobile x-ray units to be taken out and used at the battle fronts of Europe. She used her clout to raise private money from wealthy Parisian women to outfit vehicles later dubbed "Little Curries." Now soldiers wounded in battle could receive an x-ray and be accurately treated by the surgeons at the front. This led to many lives and limbs being saved. Marie Curie also trained over 150 women volunteers on how to operate the x-ray machines and develop the x-rays in the "Little Curries." Many of the women x-ray technologists also learned how to drive the vehicles, change tires, and do basic engine maintenance. Pictures below are of a "Little Currie" mobile x-ray unit. An x-ray identifying a bullet located in the heart of a soldier, and x-rays being done at a field hospital to locate a bullet in a soldier.

Portable Medical Diagnostics, Inc may not be providing x-rays and ultrasounds on a battlefront but the same purpose for our mobile services exists today - to help identify medical issues in patients that need fast treatment at their bedside.

Hurricane Isaias Update #3:

Thankfully (tropical storm) Isaias did not make a significant impact in our area. PMD was able to remain open during the entirety of the storm and currently has all techs on the road completing exams. This will be the final update concerning the storm as we do not foresee any future closures.

PMD Hurricane Isaias Service Update (applies to our Florida East Coast operations only):

PMD will remain open and fully operational until the time the authorities tell us we must be off the road. This generally happens when the winds rise above 45 mph. We do not anticipate this happening until late Saturday night into Sunday morning. Once PMD techs are off the road we will continue to take orders for exams. You can order exams from us via phone, fax, and our website at pmdxu.com. We have several redundancies built into our system and we will be able to field calls during the storm regardless of the power situation. Once the “all clear” is given after the storm and PMD techs are allowed to be on the roads, we will immediately resume service and perform all outstanding exams. PMD will continue to provide service updates before, during, and after the storm through email and our website.
