In this episode, Lily and Ramona talk about tethered cord surgery in their own words. A tethered cord happens when the spinal cord is attached inside the spine and cannot move freely, which can place tension on the nerves as a child grows. Surgery is performed to release that tension and allow the spinal cord to move more naturally.

Dr. Nguyen is treating a 35-year-old patient with a severe infection of the left lower extremity that progressed to a bone infection. As a result of an equinovarus contracture, a condition where the foot is fixed downward and inward, the patient had been unable to bear weight on his foot for the past year.

Using patient-specific instrumentation from MedCAD, Dr. Nguyen planned the reconstruction with a 3D-printed model precisely matched to the patient’s unaffected leg. This technology allowed for accurate reconstruction, repositioning, and fixation to restore proper alignment and symmetry.

Dr. Arun Hariharan walks through a complex case involving pseudoachondroplasia and the challenges it can create at the C1–C2 level of the cervical spine.

In this case, a prior fusion failed, and imaging showed loosened screws that left the patient with ongoing pain and instability. Dr. Hariharan and his team revised the fusion with updated fixation and bone graft to restore stability and allow the spine to properly fuse.

and traveled to Taiyuan for China’s Pediatric Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Surgery Conference, then to Beijing as invited guests at the Orthopedic Hospital to help evaluate children alongside local teams.

They shared presentations on clubfoot, vertical talus, cerebral palsy & spasticity, tarsal coalitions, and genetic conditions—strengthening pediatric orthopedic education and global collaboration.
