To our amazing supporters and friends... we have had to make the difficult decision to close our doors. COVID challenged us BIG time, and we stuck it out as long as we could.

Thank you so so much for your support throughout these years we’ve been together. Never stop making music.

Love and Gratitude!
Katie

As Music Therapists, it is our responsibility to stay on top of all new and relevant research that is being conducted in our field. Without staying current with new findings, we cannot provide the care that our clients need and deserve.
This is why we are so fortunate to have AMTA Music Therapy Research keeping us informed on new publications! If you are interested in learning about some amazing research that is happening in the Music Therapy world, we highly suggest giving them a follow and seeing what work is being done to further the profession!

Hello! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Allison Stratman, and I am the newest hire here at River City Music Therapy! I started last December and have been loving it ever since♥️

I received my bachelors in music therapy from Colorado State University *Go Rams!* and ever since have had a great passion working with individuals with neurological disorders such as stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, and traumatic brain injury. I also maintain my credentials to be a Neurologic Music Therapist which provides me with necessary skills and knowledge when working within these certain populations.

I am passionate about helping every person I work with reach their highest potential and move beyond the box the world has put them in. We all deserve to be our best selves and I’m so grateful to be able to help others accomplish that through the use of music 🎶

We’ve gotten quite a few new friends on Facebook since I last introduced myself. Hey! I’m Katie!

I studied music therapy at the University of Iowa for my bachelors and University of Kansas for my masters. While I was in grad school I THOROUGHLY enjoyed my role on the clinical supervision team.

I founded River City in 2013 to make music to make change, and to make Peoria a better place. The medical, educational, rehabilitative, entertainment communities in Peoria have seen us at work. We’re looking forward to deepening these relationships and helping more clients enjoy access to our services.

We’re thrilled to be expanding programs and services for music therapy students! We’ll let you know when we start the rollout.

Before I go, I need to make you aware of two local organizations making a big difference. You MUST check out Blue Ridge Community Farm (Chillicothe) and The Penguin Project (Peoria). You’ll thank me later.

Thank you for being here. Don’t forget to sing today.

We're advocating for Music Therapy the entire month of March! Illinois music therapists have been working hard to get licensure for a while. We need your support.

Title protection can help Illinois clients find board-certified music therapists, who undergo extensive training, and maintain the "MT-BC" credential.

Do you consider yourself a friend of music therapy?? We have a favor to ask.... (more info coming soon!)

This is why we do what we do. ❤

We use our unique skills in Music Therapy to work with our clients towards reaching their highest potential. Music is already in us, so why not use it to reach functional goals such as regaining speech after surviving a stroke?
We are here to help! Reach out to see what Music Therapy can do for you or your loved one.

As Kim so beautifully put, "It just works."

We’re so happy to be part of the Blue Ridge Community Farm family. Everyone visiting the farm was greeted by Maggie, a sweet golden retriever who was the most caring, patient, and tender friend visitors could hope for. She loved to sit in our music sessions and keep us company. Once, she barked right on time during “How Much is that Doggy in the Window,” though we were quickly told she’s not for sale.

Maggie will always be remembered, because she set the perfect tone on the farm: a place to be yourself, relax, and enjoy the animals and each other.

With permission, we’re sharing a tribute we made to Maggie with Jimmy, who lives and works on the farm, and who loved Maggie very much.
