November is National COPD Awareness Month, a chance to shine a light on COPD and support those affected by it.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive condition that restricts airflow in the lungs, leading to symptoms like coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and fatigue. While smoking is one of the biggest risk factors for developing COPD, people who have never smoked might also develop it. Currently, there are 16 million people in the US who have been diagnosed with COPD, but many more are living with it and do not know it, highlighting the critical importance of education and awareness.
