Alfred W. “Pete” Schroeder Jr., 91, of West Pittston, passed away January 27th, 2026 in Allied Skilled Hospice, Scranton.

Born in Hamilton Twp., New Jersey, he was the son of the late Alfred W. Sr. and Bessie Moon Schroeder. He was a graduate of the Hamilton High School, New Jersey Teachers College, University of Maryland, and Rutgers University.

Pete honorably served his Country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. And was honorably discharged in 1961.

He as an educator in the Reynolds Jr. High School, New Jersey and then a vice principal and then principal of the Steinert High School, Hamilton, New Jersey.

He loved his family and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Pete followed Major League baseball very closely and as coached baseball for Jr. High School. He loved horses and Nascar.

He had a love for the bible and studied it and went to church regularly throughout Luzerne County.

Pete also played the piano at many family gatherings.

He as preceded in death by his spouses, Carol A. Schroeder (Gdinsky), Linda Schroeder (Tinklepaugh), Brother, Arthur L. Schroeder.

Pete is survived by his children, Alfred W. Schroeder III and wife Katherine, Edward A. Schroeder, grandchildren, Lindsey Schroeder, Alfred William Schroeder, Mallory King, Nicole Schroeder, and Allison Schroeder, great grandchildren, Madelyn King and Presley King.

A viewing will be held on Sunday February 8th, 2026 from 2pm until 4pm at the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home Inc., 509 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston. A service will be held at 4pm.

Interment will be private in the West Pittston Cemetery.

Ronald J. Smith, 61, of West Wyoming, passed away Thursday January 22nd, 2026 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Judith Smith. He was a graduate of Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Ron was best known as the Chef at Bettelli’s Villa, Wilkes-Barre for many years.

He loved his family and especially his grandchildren. Ron loved cooking, taking care of fish tanks, and loved scrapping.

He was preceded in death his infant daughter, Violet Rose Smith.

Ron is survived by his wife the former Elaine Burnside, Children, Sabrina Smith, Pittston, Serina Smith, Pittston, Cody Smith, West Wyoming, grandchildren, Jaxson, Gabriel, Harlie, Roni, and several nieces and nephews.

As per Ron’s wishes all of his funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

William J. Rowe Jr., 73, of West Pittston, passed away Monday January 19th, 2026 in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Summerville, New Jersey, he was a son of the late William J. Sr. and Ida Popple Rowe. He was graduate of Wyoming Area High School Class of 1970. Bill was a member of Corpus Christi Parish (Immaculate Conception Church), West Pittston.

Bill was a devout Catholic and was in church every Sunday with his wife. He was a very faithful man to everyone and to his parish.

After High School he went to E. Stroudsburg University and then to Wilkes University and received a Bachelor’s degree in economics.

Bill was employed as a financial advisor for many years with Morgan and Stanley and then worked at the NLS group as a Right of Agent for Renewables.

He loved his family, his dog Bosco and the wonderful town of West Pittston. Bill served as a part time Borough Manager for many years and then became involved in town politics running for Borough Council where he was elected and served several terms. He was the past president of Council. He still served his community in several capacities. He was currently the treasure and on the board at the West Pittston Library, West Pittston Historical society, and also was in charge of fundraisers for his alumni class at Wyoming Area.

Bill also was a big collector of Lionel trains. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Philadelphia Phillies, and Michigan University.

Anyone who knew him knew that he had a satellite office at 801 Wyoming Avenue at the Dunkin Donuts. He enjoyed going and hanging out and talking with everyone who came in. He also was a staple at Danko’s gym with his group of friends. They were there almost every morning.

Bill was also a familiar face at Agolino’s Restaurant where he always sat at the counter with his wife and enjoyed many dinners together.

He was preceded in death by his niece, Rebecca Jo Klotzbach.

Bill is survived by his loving wife the former Nancy Kelly, they would have been married for 30 years this coming May, daughter, Joleen DiMaggio, Shavertown, sister, Susan Klotzbach and her husband Karl, Florida, aunt, Helen Popple Battle, West Pittston, brother-in-law, Gene Kelly, Yatesville, and nephews, Karl Jr, and wife Lauren, Eric and his wife Teale, also, nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and many friends.

A viewing will be held on Saturday January 24th, 2026 from 2:30pm until 3:30pm in Corpus Christi Parish at 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 3:30pm with Monsignor John Sempa and Father Michael Drevitch as the celebrants. Interment will be private in the Dennison Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Louis P. Degnan, 70, of Wyoming, passed away Monday January 19th, 2026 at his home.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late James and Pauline Marinos Degnan. He was a graduate of Wyoming Area High School. Louis was a member of Corpus Christi Parish (Immaculate Conception Church), West Pittston.

He was employed as plant manager at Milazzo Industries until he retired.

Louis loved his family and his grandchild. He was very handy in carpentry and built most of his home for his family himself. From coaching his children and their friends in sports molding them into the best. Louis coached soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball. Louis also coached at the Dome during the winter seasons. He loved being out in the woods hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife the former Mary Louise Korzeniewski, children, son Louis P. Degnan Jr. and his wife Sara, New Jersey, daughter, Serra Degnan, San Diego, Ca., Grandson, Kieran, brothers, Jay Degnan and wife Rachel, Lehman Twp., Peter John Degnan and wife Roxanne, Wilkes-Barre, sister, Louann Degnan, Wyoming, and nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Saturday January 24th, 2026 from 11:30am until 12:30pm. in Corpus Christi Parish (Immaculate Conception Church) at 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 12:30pm. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Announcin the passing of Charles A. Bechtold.

Charles A. Bechtold, 76, of Duryea, passed away Thursday January 15th, 2026 peacefully at home just as he wanted.

Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Catherine Rugletic Bechtold. He was a graduate of the first class at Pittston Area High School Class of 1969.

Many knew Charles as Ducky, Uncle Duck, Dad and his most favorite was pop pop. He was one of those guys who loved his family and his pets. Ducky was always available to lend a helping hand and give advice if you wanted it or not. He looked forward to spending time in Texas with his son Jack to get away from all the crazy at home.

Patries under the patio with 80’s metal playing and beer flowing with his favorite boys, Mark Hoover, Danny Stella, Mike Stella, Brian Musloski and Mark (Beck) Sinoracki. Coffee trips with his brother Carl and Friday lunches with is buddy Steve and reconnecting with is true buddy Andy Fargo. Charlie spent his free time working on cars in his garage and yes, it is true we never held the flashlight right. Most importantly his never missed a moment with is grandkids, Jaylynn, and his mini me Ashton. Let’s just say he gave 100 % in whatever he did.

His number one reason for sticking around was his grandkids and his pets, Cookie, Gracie and Sammy.

Charles was greeted with open arms in heaven by his mother and father, granddaughter, Addison Bechtold, sister, Betty Sinoracki, nephew, David Sinoracki, nephew, Brandon Tokar, and his best friend and cousin Howard (Ricky) Bechtold.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Bechtold and husband Scott Goosley, Duryea, son, Jack Bechtold, Texas, brother, Carl Bechtold, Duryea, sister Cathy Decker, Duryea, former wife and friend, Elizabeth (Gallagher) Bechtold, Old Forge, several nieces and nephews and cousins.

A visitation will be held on Thursday January 22nd, 2026 from 5pm until 8pm at the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home Inc., 59 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston. A service will be held at 8pm. with Military Honors to follow. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
