💙 Lymphedema Awareness Week 💙
Lymphedema happens when lymph fluid builds up in the tissues and causes swelling, most often in the arms or legs. It can occur after surgery, cancer treatment, infection, injury, or problems with the lymphatic system.
👀 Signs to watch for:
• Persistent swelling in an arm or leg
• Heaviness or tightness in a limb
• Skin that feels tight or thickened
• Jewelry, clothes, or shoes feeling tighter on one side
🏠 Ways to support lymphatic health at home:
• Stay active and move regularly
• Elevate swollen limbs when resting
• Stay well hydrated
• Gentle massage or lymphatic drainage techniques
• Compression garments if recommended by your provider
• Practice good skin care
⚠️ If swelling is new, worsening, painful, or associated with redness or warmth, it’s important to seek medical care.
