KACH to Conduct Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (Drone) Flights at West Point

Keller Army Community Hospital has received FAA clearance and will be conducting unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or "drone" flights over Garrison West Point in the coming weeks. These flights are a preliminary step in Keller’s long-term initiative to improve Keller’s ability to provide medical logistic support to its outlying clinics including the Mologne Cadet Health Clinic.

Keller will make every effort to notify the West Point community on dates, start times, and conclusions of the test flights.

The primary purpose of these initial flights is to identify and establish safe and efficient flight paths across the Garrison. The safety and privacy of all West Point residents and personnel is paramount.

Key details regarding these operations:

• Supervision: All drone flights will be continuously monitored by trained ground personnel.

• Cargo: Most of these flights will not be carrying any cargo. A small, select number of flights will carry simulated test cargo to assess performance.

• Safety Protocols: Operations will be immediately cancelled if any safety concerns arise.

• Privacy: While the drones are equipped with cameras, their use is strictly limited to navigation and the verification of landing zones. They will not be used for surveillance purposes.

The long-term vision for this initiative is to integrate drone technology into military medical logistics, significantly enhancing the health, safety, and readiness of our soldiers. This program also serves to familiarize service members with drone technology, equipping them with the necessary skills to operate and leverage these tools in potential combat scenarios. As drones become increasingly embedded in military tactics, this hands-on experience is essential for ensuring both safety and mission effectiveness in the field.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to advance military medical capabilities.

Keller Army Community Hospital held a cake-cutting ceremony in recognition of the 125th U.S. Army Nurse Corps Anniversary.

For 125 years, the U.S. Army Nurse Corps has stood as a beacon of compassion, courage, and unwavering dedication, providing critical care to service members and their families in times of peace and conflict. Established in 1901, the Nurse Corps has evolved from a small group of pioneering women to a diverse and highly skilled force of more than 11,000 men and women serving across the globe.

These dedicated professionals have consistently demonstrated their commitment to the highest standards of military nursing excellence, from the front lines of World War I to the modern-day challenges and conflicts. Their story is one of innovation, resilience, and profound impact on the lives of countless individuals.

Throughout its storied history, the Army Nurse Corps has been at the forefront of military medicine, pioneering advancements that have saved countless lives.

During World War II, more than 59,000 nurses served, with some enduring the horrors of being prisoners of war, while others cared for the wounded on the beaches of Normandy and in the jungles of the Pacific. In Korea and Vietnam, they continued to redefine battlefield medicine, developing trauma care specializations and contributing to a significant reduction in mortality rates.

Today's Army nurses continue this legacy of innovation, leading in areas like trauma care, rapid evacuation protocols, and medical readiness training, ensuring that the U.S. military remains a formidable force with the best possible medical support.

Their selfless service and unwavering commitment to healing continue to inspire and earn the deep gratitude of the American people.

The Keller Army Community Hospital “125th Birthday to the Army Nurse Corps” cake was cut by 1st Lt. Mercedes Arroyo, Clinical Staff Nurse (the junior-most nurse at Keller); Col. Andrew Hover, Deputy Commander for Nursing & Health Services; and Gwendolyn Swinson, Joint Commission Coordinator (the most experienced nurse at Keller).

Please join Keller Army Community Hospital as we say THANK YOU and Happy Birthday to the men and women of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps!!!
