There’s something that’s become oddly acceptable online and honestly it’s time we talk about it.

People casually saying things like“I’m looking for a product that does ___ but it can’t be an MLM.”or“Please don’t comment if you’re in an MLM.”

Imagine saying that about almost any other group of people.

Looking for a product but it can’t be made by women.Don’t comment if you’re an immigrant.Don’t respond if you’re from a certain background.

We would immediately recognize that language for what it is. Prejudice.

Yet when it comes to network marketing people feel completely comfortable dismissing an entire group of humans. Their work, their intentions, and their livelihoods.

Behind every MLM label is a real person. A mom trying to stay home with her kids. A family looking to work together. A person sharing products that genuinely helped them.

What’s especially sad is that many of the people who criticize MLMs are actually deeply aligned with the very things these companies stand for. Healthier products. Entrepreneurship. Community. Personal growth. Freedom from traditional systems.

But because of stigma and social pressure they shut the door before ever taking a real look.

You don’t have to love every business model and you don’t have to buy anything. But publicly excluding and stereotyping millions of people isn’t thoughtful or intelligent. It’s just another form of bigotry we’ve normalized.

Respect costs nothing.

If network marketing isn’t for you that’s okay. But the people in it still deserve the same dignity you would want for yourself.

And if you’re in this profession and you’ve felt the sting of those comments, you’re not alone.
