What Is Glyphosate?
Glyphosate is a chemical herbicide best known by the brand name Roundup. It was created in the 1970s by Monsanto and is now one of the most widely used w**d killers worldwide. It works by blocking a plant enzyme, which stops w**ds from growing.
Because it is used so widely, glyphosate residues are often found on food, especially processed foods containing soy, corn, and wheat derivatives. In fact, glyphosate has been detected in:
• Cereal grains (including oats and wheat)
• Snack foods
• Baby food
• Beer and wine
• Even rainwater and air samples in agricultural areas
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other regulatory bodies have set “tolerable residue levels” for glyphosate in food, but growing public concern remains about long-term exposure to even low levels.
