Hey there, families! Just a heads up, my Facebook silence doesn't mean I'm not waging war on head lice! It's peak season, and parents all over the Southtown’s are freaking out. To avoid the itch, remember: up-dos are a must, no sharing is caring (hoodies, headphones, hats, hair stuff, or helmets), and no head-to-head hijinks. Hello ya’ll! Head Lice is still pretty rampant in our parts 😬. I’ve treated more adults than kids in recent weeks. Tip: while showering, brush your hair out to remove tangles, then use a head lice comb throughout. Make sure you’re gently scraping your scalp as you pull the comb all the way through your hair. Inspect the comb, rinse it off and continue in different spots of the head. Give me a call if you spot any small, dark colored bugs. This is not a substitute for an actual head lice comb out but it will allow you to check your own hair without intervention.

EEEEEEEK! Their coming for us all! Head Lice are at their peak right now, so talk to your children about avoiding head to head contact. As many of you know, I’m not only a head lice technician but a special education teacher. Between all the head checks I’ve done at school and calls I’ve received from frantic parents, I can say w certainty that head lice are making their way across WNY. Head Lice DO NOT discriminate. It’s the second week of school for many children; along with academics comes socializing and having fun. Talk to your children about personal space (there’s lots of YouTube videos if you need assistance), especially avoiding head to head contact. This is imperative for avoiding the spread of head lice. If your child does ends up with head lice, you may see them scratching their heads in the next 2-4 weeks. It takes many people a month or more to suspect they have them! Daily Lice Lesson: you may check the whole head of an infected person without ever seeing any adult louse. Unless you know where and what exactly your looking for, they can be very hard to detect (I told you about their stellar camouflaging skills). When doing head checks, always look for nits (louse eggs), especially behind the ears and base of the neck. Lisa Dixon
