It is hard to overstate how helpful your body can be in the healing journey if you befriend it and learn to listen to what it is trying to tell you. The dilemma is that most people with a history of trauma have learned that their body is not a trustworthy source of information. Anytime you are feeling anxiety, your body is giving you information about either your present life or your past story. An apology that is not followed by changed behaviour is not an apology. It is a tool for ending uncomfortable conversations.

Real accountability is uncomfortable in a way that empty apology is not. That discomfort is not a sign something is wrong. It is a sign something real is happening.
