Guilt is a heavy emotion, but it can help us correct ourselves when behaving in ways that goes against our values. In healthy and realistic doses this helps us grow and improve, but when we experience extreme or unreasonable guilt, it can be a huge weight on us. We get stuck punishing ourselves to the benefit of nobody (our loved ones usually just end up more concerned). If you are feeling bogged down with intense guilt, it can help to talk to someone that can help get you unstuck.
