On Tuesday, my husband Hari Nair and I joined several DPC (Direct Primary Care) physicians from across Massachusetts who came together both in person and virtually to support Bill H.1343 during a key legislative hearing. The bill would empower Direct Primary Care (DPC) physicians to submit referrals even when patients are enrolled in HMO plans.
This was no small feat. It meant rescheduling patients, juggling calendars, and dedicating an entire day to advocacy. In total, 9 individuals gave verbal testimony, with many more submitting written statements to help move this bill toward a vote in the House.
As a clinician on the front lines of patient care, I witness every day how administrative barriers can slow access, fragment continuity, and erode trust. This bill is about restoring a more direct, efficient path to care, one that helps patients without sacrificing oversight or accountability.
Shortly after the hearing, we learned that Senator Michael Mooreās office has filed a mirror bill in the Senate, a crucial next step that brings us closer to meaningful progress.
This is a huge moment for DPC in Massachusetts and a clear example of whatās possible when passionate people show up and speak out.
A heartfelt thank you to
and everyone who contributed their time, voices, and expertise to this effort.
Letās keep the momentum going.
