Sanctuary Hospice

Sanctuary Hospice Time to Live Well. Sanctuary Hospice is dedicated to serving our community, patients, and families. It's the Sanctuary way.

Determining the best course of care for someone you love can be a challenge, but Sanctuary Hospice strives to make this process as simple as possible. Our people are highly trained and sincere, our methods are tested and true, and our integrity is unblemished. When you choose Sanctuary, you can assure your loved one is receiving exactly what they need, when they need it. We serve patients located across Northern Illinois and Northeast and Southwest Ohio. Specialized Services are Tailored to Fit Your Needs:

PERSONAL PHYSICIANS
May continue to actively participate in the patient's care including writing orders, consulting with the hospice team and overseeing the plan of care for the duration of treatment. MEDICAL DIRECTORS/HOSPICE PHYSICIANS
Offer their expertise in pain and symptom management and oversee the patient’s hospice care. NURSES
Manage patient's symptoms, provide education to patients and caregivers and coordinate care with the rest of the hospice team. CHAPLAINS
Offer spiritual care in accordance with the wishes of the patient and family, often coordinating with the patient's clergy or religious leader. SOCIAL WORKERS
Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide counseling, education and other skilled interventions to enhance patient and family coping. COMMUNITY LIAISONS
Serve as patient advocates and educators. Liaisons work closely with healthcare providers to ensure a smooth transition to hospice services. They can meet with the patient or family in a private home setting, a hospital, or a place of work. CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANTS
Provide compassionate personal treatments such as bathing, nail and skin care, and grooming. Patients benefit from gentle hands offering a light massage. Families and caregivers receive best practice education on how to care for their loved ones. BEREAVEMENT COORDINATORS
Offer individual and group grief support and counseling to patients, families, and caregivers. Services are offered throughout the duration of hospice care and are followed by thirteen months of bereavement support. TRAINED VOLUNTEERS
Provide companionship and a calming presence to the patient. They may also offer short periods of respite to the caregiver to allow them to run an errand or keep an appointment.

Behind every moment of compassionate care is a team working together with heart.

On Colleague Appreciation Day, we celebrate the colleagues who lift each other up, step in when help is needed, and bring encouragement to even the busiest days.

Hospice care is never a solo effort. It takes nurses, hospice aides, social workers, chaplains, volunteers, and support colleagues coming together to serve patients and families with excellence.

Today we say thank you for the teamwork, kindness, and dedication that make our mission possible.

💚Today we spotlight our volunteer Janell with our patient, Barbara. 💚

Janell has been a VALUED member of our team for the last year. She serves as a PATIENT COMPANION and is loved by all that cross her path. Janell takes the time to learn about the patient, their families, and what they need/enjoy doing during her weekly visits. She goes above & beyond by actively attending our team meetings, including our facility collaborations. She has a calming presence, and we know our patients are in the best of hands when she is around.

Barbara said the 1st thing Janell says when she sees her is 'what do you need?' Barbara talked about how families aren't like they used to be with the support of parents, etc. Barbara loves having someone she can count on. And their weekly lunch dates make Janell's heart happy, & they both have a lot of laughs. 🙂 WIN-WIN

Making a Difference Every Day! Women’s History Month gives us the opportunity to celebrate those who lead quietly but powerfully through service.

This week we honor Bri, whose dedication helps families feel supported, heard, and cared for during life’s most meaningful moments. Her compassion strengthens not only our patients but our entire team.

Thank you for being such an important part of what we do.

Behind every hospice journey is a compassionate advocate helping families navigate some of life’s hardest moments.

During Social Work Month, we recognize the heart and dedication of our social workers who uplift families, defend dignity, and transform difficult seasons into moments of connection and support.

From coordinating resources and providing emotional guidance to advocating for patient wishes, their work ensures no family walks this path alone.

Thank you for living out this year’s theme: Social Workers: Uplift. Defend. Transform.

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate the incredible women who lead with compassion, strength, and purpose every day.

From nurses and aides to social workers, chaplains, and administrative leaders, women play a vital role in shaping the future of hospice care. Their dedication helps families find comfort, dignity, and peace during life’s most meaningful moments.

This year’s theme, Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future, reminds us that lasting change often begins with a caring heart and a willingness to serve others.

Thank you to the women who make our mission possible.
