Sanctuary Hospice

Sanctuary Hospice Time to Live Well. Sanctuary Hospice is dedicated to serving our community, patients, and families. It's the Sanctuary way.

Determining the best course of care for someone you love can be a challenge, but Sanctuary Hospice strives to make this process as simple as possible. Our people are highly trained and sincere, our methods are tested and true, and our integrity is unblemished. When you choose Sanctuary, you can assure your loved one is receiving exactly what they need, when they need it. We serve patients located across Northern Illinois and Northeast and Southwest Ohio. Specialized Services are Tailored to Fit Your Needs:

PERSONAL PHYSICIANS
May continue to actively participate in the patient's care including writing orders, consulting with the hospice team and overseeing the plan of care for the duration of treatment. MEDICAL DIRECTORS/HOSPICE PHYSICIANS
Offer their expertise in pain and symptom management and oversee the patient’s hospice care. NURSES
Manage patient's symptoms, provide education to patients and caregivers and coordinate care with the rest of the hospice team. CHAPLAINS
Offer spiritual care in accordance with the wishes of the patient and family, often coordinating with the patient's clergy or religious leader. SOCIAL WORKERS
Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide counseling, education and other skilled interventions to enhance patient and family coping. COMMUNITY LIAISONS
Serve as patient advocates and educators. Liaisons work closely with healthcare providers to ensure a smooth transition to hospice services. They can meet with the patient or family in a private home setting, a hospital, or a place of work. CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANTS
Provide compassionate personal treatments such as bathing, nail and skin care, and grooming. Patients benefit from gentle hands offering a light massage. Families and caregivers receive best practice education on how to care for their loved ones. BEREAVEMENT COORDINATORS
Offer individual and group grief support and counseling to patients, families, and caregivers. Services are offered throughout the duration of hospice care and are followed by thirteen months of bereavement support. TRAINED VOLUNTEERS
Provide companionship and a calming presence to the patient. They may also offer short periods of respite to the caregiver to allow them to run an errand or keep an appointment.

Their work continues to influence how care is delivered and how communities are served today.

On National Women Physicians Day, we recognize the incredible women who have shaped medicine through their dedication, compassion, and leadership. Their commitment to caring for others continues to make a lasting impact on patients, families, and communities.

This day is observed on the birthday of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to earn a medical degree in the United States. Her courage opened doors for generations of women to pursue careers in medicine and advocate for patient center care.

Today, we proudly celebration all women physicians who follow in her footsteps, bringing knowledge, empathy, and strength to healthcare every day. We are grateful for the difference they make and the example they set for future generations.

February is American Heart Month, a time to bring awareness to heart health and the impact heart disease has on individuals and families across our communities. Heart conditions affect millions of Americans each year and often play a significant role for those living with serious or advanced illness.

💡 Ways to Support Heart Health for Loved Ones
❤️ Encourage nourishing meals that are both heart conscious and comforting
❤️ Support movement or rest that aligns with their energy and abilities
❤️ Help manage medications and stay organized with care plan
❤️ Offer emotional support and reassurance because caring for the heart includes caring for the whole person

At Sanctuary Hospice, we believe heart health is about more than physical care. It is about compassion, presence, and honoring the lives and stories of those we serve. This month, we join the conversation by recognizing the importance of awareness, education, and thoughtful support for every heart we care for.

Our Des Plaines team hosted our Annual Memorial Service in their new office space. The theme was snowflakes as we gathered on a cold winter day, but sunshine graced us as we gathered. Our amazing music therapist began our service with "Sunshine in My Shoulder" by John Denver. It was a beautiful event and warmth was all around.

Many people do not realize that families can ask about hospice directly. A referral can come from a physician, hospital, or even from a family member requesting information. Early referrals allow patients and families to receive more support, education, and comfort.

If you would like to connect with a member of our team, call the office closest to you, or visit our website, https://www.sanctuaryhospiceil.com/, for more information.

We are so grateful to shine a light on one of our Rockford volunteers, Rene. A retired RN, Rene has been generously creating the most beautiful handmade greeting cards for our patients and families for several months. From birthday wishes to sympathy cards and thank you notes, each card is crafted with incredible care and the utmost quality.

These cards become even more special as our entire team signs them and adds our Sanctuary Family sticker. Patients and families regularly comment on how meaningful they are, and we often see them still hanging in patient rooms long after they are given.

Rene also checks in with us often to see what we need, always ready to help in whatever way she can. Her kindness, consistency, and heart for others truly make a difference and remind us how powerful simple acts of love can be.
