Sanctuary Hospice

Sanctuary Hospice Time to Live Well. Sanctuary Hospice is dedicated to serving our community, patients, and families. It's the Sanctuary way.

Determining the best course of care for someone you love can be a challenge, but Sanctuary Hospice strives to make this process as simple as possible. Our people are highly trained and sincere, our methods are tested and true, and our integrity is unblemished. When you choose Sanctuary, you can assure your loved one is receiving exactly what they need, when they need it. We serve patients located

across Northern Illinois and Northeast and Southwest Ohio. Specialized Services are Tailored to Fit Your Needs:

PERSONAL PHYSICIANS
May continue to actively participate in the patient's care including writing orders, consulting with the hospice team and overseeing the plan of care for the duration of treatment. MEDICAL DIRECTORS/HOSPICE PHYSICIANS
Offer their expertise in pain and symptom management and oversee the patient’s hospice care. NURSES
Manage patient's symptoms, provide education to patients and caregivers and coordinate care with the rest of the hospice team. CHAPLAINS
Offer spiritual care in accordance with the wishes of the patient and family, often coordinating with the patient's clergy or religious leader. SOCIAL WORKERS
Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide counseling, education and other skilled interventions to enhance patient and family coping. COMMUNITY LIAISONS
Serve as patient advocates and educators. Liaisons work closely with healthcare providers to ensure a smooth transition to hospice services. They can meet with the patient or family in a private home setting, a hospital, or a place of work. CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANTS
Provide compassionate personal treatments such as bathing, nail and skin care, and grooming. Patients benefit from gentle hands offering a light massage. Families and caregivers receive best practice education on how to care for their loved ones. BEREAVEMENT COORDINATORS
Offer individual and group grief support and counseling to patients, families, and caregivers. Services are offered throughout the duration of hospice care and are followed by thirteen months of bereavement support. TRAINED VOLUNTEERS
Provide companionship and a calming presence to the patient. They may also offer short periods of respite to the caregiver to allow them to run an errand or keep an appointment.

Part of our Interdisciplinary Team, learn about our Chaplains and Bereavement Coordinators.

While chaplains offer spiritual counseling and emotional support to both active and bereaved patients and families, bereavement coordinators focus on planning and implementing programs to support families for up to 13 months after the patient's passing.

Together, they ensure our hospice concepts, philosophy, and goals are upheld with compassion and care.

This week we celebrate National Volunteer Week and the incredible individuals who give their time, compassion, and hearts to our patients and families.

Hospice volunteers are truly the heart of what we do. Whether they are offering companionship, providing respite for caregivers, sitting vigil, assisting with administrative support, or sharing special talents, their presence brings comfort during life’s most meaningful moments.

A simple visit. A listening ear. A gentle hand to hold.

These acts of kindness make a lasting difference.

To our volunteers — thank you for the countless hours you give and the lives you touch. Your compassion reflects the very spirit of hospice care.

If you feel called to make a difference in someone’s life, we would love to connect with you. 💙

Join us celebrating 50 years of recognizing the impact that volunteers have in our communities. This year we are 🔦Shining a Light on the People and Causes the Inspire Us 🔦

On National Arbor Day, we pause to reflect on the lasting impact of life and the renewal that nature provides. In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, we plant a tree in memory of each patient we have had the honor of caring for. This creates a living tribute that will flourish for generations to come.

These trees not only beautify our surroundings but also support wildlife, improve air quality, and contribute to a healthier planet. More importantly, they serve as a symbol of remembrance, offering comfort to families and ensuring that the legacy of their loved ones continues to grow.

Today we recognize World Parkinson's Day 💙

This day brings awareness to Parkinson’s disease — a progressive neurological condition that affects movement, speech, and daily life for millions of individuals and families around the world.

At Sanctuary Hospice, we understand that Parkinson’s doesn’t just impact one person — it touches spouses, children, caregivers, and entire support systems. As the disease advances, care needs can become more complex, and families often feel overwhelmed navigating what comes next.

Hospice care can provide comfort-focused support, symptom management, emotional guidance, and dignity during advanced stages of Parkinson’s. Our team walks alongside families to ensure no one faces this journey alone.

Today, we stand in support of those living with Parkinson’s and the caregivers who show up with strength and love every single day.

If you have questions about advanced Parkinson’s care or hospice support, we’re here to help. 💙

Reminder: Our medical directors can work alongside the attending physician

At Sanctuary Hospice, our care team includes experienced and dedicated medical directors who provide clinical leadership and guidance to ensure the highest quality of care throughout the end-of-life journey. We also respect the important relationship you have with your attending physician, who has been part of your care along the way. If you choose, we will work closely with your physician to support a smooth and coordinated transition to hospice services. Our priority is to provide care that brings you and your family comfort, confidence, and peace of mind.
