Fluoride:

1. Strengthens the enamel by creating a more decay resistant surface.
2. Reduces tooth sensitivity
3. Beneficial in low doses but toxic in high amounts.

Hydroxyapatite:

1. Acts by filling in demineralized areas of the enamel, essentially repairing the enamel directly
2. Reduces tooth sensitivity
3. Non-toxic

Take Away:

Fluoride toothpaste is preferred for people with moderate and high cavity risk and for those with dry mouth.

Hydroxyapatite is the preferred alternative to fluoride for people looking for natural, non toxic or biomimetic dental care. It is also preferred for sensitive teeth.
