The Magic of a Snow Day
Ahh the dreaded yet welcomed 5am automated wakeup call from the school alerting us that school is closed due to inclement weather conditions.
My quiet cup of coffee gets enjoyed while watching the sparkling flakes fall in the predawn hour.
It’s my reminder to pause and appreciate my blessings of not having to rush this morning and figure out who will care for my kids while I figure out how I will get to work on time and worry about driving conditions….and why I’m still expected to drive to work if conditions are unsafe for children to go to school.
For parents in the thick of it, please pause frequently and find every ounce of remaining kindness towards your spouse and your kids. And if your inventory of kindness has been depleted or running low, that makes it more urgent to stop and be kind to yourself.
If you are not actively making time to slow down and reflect upon your life and your relationships, don’t expect anything to change.
As Esther Perel reminds us, “The quality of your relationships determine the quality of your life.” That goes for professional as well as personal.
Our kids are always such a mirror for the thoughts, habits and behaviors that are keeping us from becoming more of who we want to be.
People hire coaches when they recognize that things aren’t the way they had hoped they would be. Athletes rely on their coaches to help them improve their game.
The smartest athletes hire hypnotherapists to do the deep work of unblocking their unconscious limiting beliefs.
The game of life calls forth in us many challenges, without a playbook to follow.
The cultural and societal unwritten expectations keep us forever in a hamster wheel or rat race of “never enough” or “then I’ll be happy” once I get “there”.
And winter is the perfect season for self-reflection and carving a new vision for who you are becoming.
Hire the coach. Invest in your path forward, whether it’s with me or another coach, as life is too short to be repeating the same unhealthy, self-defeating patterns each day.
And make a snow angel with your kids, or even better with your spouse. Put the shovel down and grab your sled instead.
