Do you have questions about car seats? Here’s what you need to know!

šŸ‘¶Infants and toddlers should ride in a rear-facing car seat as long as possible. Ohio state law requires rear facing seats until age 1, but they will be safest if you keep them rear facing until at least age 2.
šŸ‘§Once your child outgrows the rear-facing seat, switch to a forward-facing car seat with a five point harness. It will be the safest to keep them in this seat as long as possible, check your specific car seat to make sure that they don't exceed the height or weight limits. At a minimum, the should stay in this seat until at least age 4 and 40 pounds.
🚶After outgrowing the forward-facing seat, children should use a booster seat until they are at least 8 years old AND 4 feet 9 inches tall.
šŸ™‹ā€ā™‚ļøKids should ride in the back seat until at least age 13 for maximum safety.

Fun fact: Did you know that using the right car seat can reduce the risk of injury in a crash by up to 82% for children compared to seat belts alone?

Let’s keep our kids safe on the road! If you have questions about which seat is right for your child, feel free to ask at your next visit.

Measles isn’t ā€œjust a rashā€ā€”it’s one of the most contagious and dangerous childhood illnesses. Here’s what every parent in Central Ohio should know.

🩺 Measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads through the air when someone coughs or sneezes. It starts with a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes, followed by a rash that spreads from head to toe. But the real danger lies in its complications:

• 1 in 20 children with measles develops pneumonia—the leading cause of measles-related death in young kids
• 1 in 1,000 may suffer brain swelling (encephalitis), which has no cure and leads to death
• 1 to 3 in 1,000 children infected will die from respiratory or neurological complications

Despite what you might read online, measles is not a harmless childhood illness. It was declared eliminated in the U.S. in 2000 thanks to vaccines—but outbreaks are rising again due to misinformation and declining vaccination rates

šŸ’‰ The MMR vaccine is safe, effective, and life-saving. Two doses provide over 97% protection. If your child is older than 4 and hasn’t received both doses, now’s the time to talk to your pediatrician.

ā“Did you know: Before vaccines, measles caused 2.6 million deaths globally each year. Since 2000, vaccination has prevented over 60 million deaths worldwide D.

šŸ“Here at Associated Pediatrics, our job is to keep your kids safe, healthy, and thriving. You can use your myChart account to check your child’s vaccine status or schedule an appointment. Let’s protect our families and our community—one child at a time.

For years, Camara poured her heart into caring for others—until life reminded her that she needed care, too.🩵
Camara’s nursing journey began at a local hospital, where she helped launch school-based health center, and assisted with mobile health unit programs as a charge nurse and health coach for children with chronic conditions. Life changes pulled Camara away from nursing to balance parenting her three children with becoming a full-time caregiver to her mother during her battle with brain cancer.
After navigating seasons of personal loss and exploring different remote work opportunities, Camara has found her home at a Central Ohio Primary Care pediatric practice. What makes COPC different for her isn’t just the patients she serves—it’s the culture of teamwork and support that allows her to thrive both professionally and personally.
ā€œIn past roles, I often felt overworked and exhausted. Here, I don’t feel that way. I can go home and still be the mom I want to be, not just a tired nurse at the end of the day,ā€ she shares. At COPC’s Eastglen Pediatrics, she feels supported both as a professional and as a person. ā€œHere, I’m not just seen as a nurse. I’m seen as a mom, a teammate, and an individual,ā€ she shares. The culture of teamwork—where colleagues rally around one another—has restored her work-life balance and allowed her to bring her best self home to her family. She is grateful to be able to be there for her oldest son to move him into college, and being more present at her family’s many sports and church activities in the evenings and weekends.
That support has reignited Camara’s passion for pediatrics. In her role, she provides care for children of all ages, educates parents, and builds trusted relationships that last as kids grow up. ā€œEven on hard days, I want to come back the next morning. Primary care is where my passion is, and this is what I do,ā€ she says.
For Camara, COPC is more than a workplace—it’s a community that values her as a nurse, a teammate, and a person. šŸ’™

Good advice from our friends at Step

Does your teen text and drive? A new study says probably not. Most teens have a negative view of texting and driving. However, are they still distracted by their phones? YES! The study found that teens spend 20% of their time driving glancing at their phone just to check text messages. 26% of these glances last 2 seconds or longer - a length of time that increases your risk of crashing 5.5x! Just think about how many times your teen is barraged by beeps and alerts at dinner. Do they EVER let that text go? They are conditioned to respond. Best solution, the phone is placed on do not disturb and is placed in the glove box. If they can see the phone at all, even if it is not beeping, they will check it. Expect some resistance on this one. FOMO is real and there is a social cost to not being on top of texts. However, driving is a privilege, not a right. If you can't drive safe, you should not be driving.
