Check out this case posted by one of our derms. Always a good reminder to look at your patients (and yourself) for any suspicious lesions on your skin!
Case of the Day.... this is a Melanoma Skin Cancer. Melanoma is a very scary disease because it can be deadly even when it looks very small and insignificant to the naked eye. While many types of cancers affect older patients, melanoma is one that can affect any age. This is why it is so important, if you are at risk for melanoma(fair skin, tanning bed use, sunburn history, family history, many moles) to have your skin checked by a dermatologist, a doctor who completed 4 years of training in diagnosing skin cancer. Not just your primary doctor, not a nurse practitioner or physician assistant who did not do extensive training in dermatology. Not at a medispa where they are more focused on cosmetic treatments. We have 7 board certified dermatologists who are able to diagnose and discuss treatments options for skin cancers!
