Serenity Behavioral Health Services is pleased to announce that Jenifer Eilers, PMHNP is joining our team!

Jenifer provides trauma-informed psychiatric evaluation and medication management to adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, ADHD, mood instability, sleep concerns, and co-occurring substance use disorders.

Many of the people she works with are high-functioning on the outside but internally overwhelmed, exhausted, or feeling stuck. Others are working to untangle long-standing patterns shaped by trauma or chronic stress. She approaches treatment with the understanding that symptoms are not weaknesses — they are often adaptations your nervous system developed to survive difficult experiences.

Emotional Regulation: deciding when and how to feel and express our emotions

The ability to recognize, understand, and manage your emotions in a way that helps you respond effectively to life’s challenges is extremely important. Struggling with this can show up as intense reactions, feeling overwhelmed, or difficulty bouncing back after stressful situations. Emotional dysregulation can be caused by:

Stress and everyday life pressures
Past trauma or adverse experiences
Chronic anxiety or depression

Emotional regulation does not mean ignoring or suppressing feelings. It means understanding them and responding in healthy, balanced ways. Some strategies to help regulate emotions include:

Pausing to breathe before reacting
Identifying and labeling what you’re feeling
Challenging unhelpful thoughts
Practicing self-compassion

Working with a therapist can help you uncover triggers, build these skills, and navigate emotions with confidence. With practice, you can turn overwhelming feelings into manageable experiences, strengthen your relationships, and cultivate calm even during life’s storms. Do you struggle with being present?

Do you ever catch yourself rushing through the day on autopilot? Between nonstop responsibilities and constant phone alerts, it’s so easy to get pulled away from the here and now.

The truth is, being present doesn’t mean ignoring life’s demands—it just means giving your full attention to what’s happening right in front of you. Take a slow breath. Notice the sounds around you. Pause before answering that text. Little moments like these help pull us back into the present.

Because really, the present moment is the only one we truly have. And when we slow down enough to notice it, life feels calmer, clearer, and more connected.

Serenity Behavioral Health Services' Phoenix IOP program is specifically designed to provide treatment for individuals who have concerns about protecting their identity and reputation while getting the help they need. Participants can be executives, educators, military personnel, high-profile individuals, and/or board-licensed professionals.

Our program provides treatment for burnout, stress, depression, anxiety, co-dependency, shame, trauma, and acute stress disorders and understands that most individuals struggling with these symptoms are also using negative coping skills such as addiction or dependency on food, s*x, p**n, gambling, shopping, and ma*****na and/or alcohol to manage their mental health symptoms.
