Mary Brooks has worked at Ohio Living Breckenridge Village for 41 years – and been the dinner cook for most of those years.
Mary began her career working part time at the Fairmount Health & Rehabilitation Center on the tray line, and then a job opened up as a full-time lunch cook. After lunch cook, she became a full-time cook in the morning at Fairmount. She then came a full head cook at the Breckenridge Village North apartment building the year it opened!
“What has kept me here for 41 years is getting to know the residents and people I work with,” Mary expressed. “Some of my closest friends to this day I met at this job.”
It also helps that Mary “truly loves to cook.”

The Quaker Heights Q-Crew recognizes how valuable their staff members are. Last week they served staff caramel apples, celebrating national caramel apple day. This is just another reminder of how sweet their service is to Ohio Living Quaker Heights!

Our amazing HR team at Ohio Living Breckenridge Village is helping us turn October pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month! We made our rounds with a cart full of pink goodies—pens, pins, sweet treats, and pink lemonade in every water bottle. It’s a simple reminder that taking care of ourselves and each other matters. Judy Sweeney has worked at Ohio Living Llanfair for 45 years. She has served in several different roles during her tenure.

Judy began her career as a front desk receptionist before moving into the human resources department. After she retired, she started her current position as activity coordinator for independent living.

“I drove by Ohio Living Llanfair all the time with my kids,” said Judy. “I saw an ad for bookkeeper and payroll. I applied, had an interview and was told I would hear something within one week. The next day they called and offered me the job. The woman calling was Mrs. Carter. I remember my 6-year-old daughter answered the phone and thought it was President Carter’s wife calling.”

Judy expressed it’s the “little things” that bring her joy each day. “The residents and employees stand out the most. I just can’t walk away from the residents.”

Even on the tough days, she finds joy in her role. “Sometimes when I wake up not feeling 100%, I think about maybe calling off,” said Judy. “I know that once I’m here, I’ll feel better and someone will always make you feel better.”
