74 Years of Service. One Incredible Night.

Last month, WVRS members gathered at our Annual Officer Installation Dinner Dance to celebrate 74 years of volunteer emergency medical service to the Westfield community.

From honoring our past leaders to installing our 2026 Executive Board and Leadership Team, the evening was a reminder that this squad is more than ambulances and radios — it’s commitment, teamwork, and neighbors serving neighbors.

We are proud of our history and energized for the year ahead.

A heartfelt thank you to for hosting us and to our 2025 donors whose generosity makes our mission possible.

Here’s to another year of steady hands, strong leadership, and service to Westfield. 🚑💙

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Subject: Westfield Rescue Squad Teaches Medical Emergency Class at Library

The Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad recently taught 12 members of the staff of the Westfield Memorial Library how to recognize time-sensitive emergencies and provided hands-on training on what to do before help arrives. The class included information geared towards their customers, including pediatric patients.

Very few medical emergencies require immediate action other than calling 9-1-1. Residents of Westfield are fortunate to have multiple levels of emergency medical services nearby, including police, firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics. They will arrive in minutes after a call to 911 to start care. This class covered situations in which immediate recognition and care before help arrives will improve the patient’s outcome.

The class included the following topics:
Recognizing an emergency.
Hands-only CPR and AED training – both for when someone’s heart stops.
Narcan administration –when someone stops breathing due to an opioid overdose.
Choking emergencies, both adult and pediatric.
Signs of a Stroke.
Controlling severe bleeding.

The Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad has provided free emergency medical services to the Town of Westfield for close to 75 years. It is funded entirely by tax-deductible charitable donations. If you would like information on classes for your organization, or if you are interested in giving back to your community by joining the Rescue Squad, you can contact them at (908) 233-2500 or contact@westfieldrescuesquad.org.

To celebrate Black History Month, we honor the Freedom House Ambulance Service, the first modern EMS system in the United States and one staffed entirely by Black paramedics. Founded in 1967 in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, Freedom House was created to serve communities that were often overlooked and went on to transform emergency medical care. Through advanced training, rapid response times, and life-saving skill, these trailblazers saved countless lives and helped set the standards that modern paramedic and ambulance services still follow today. Their impact and legacy deserve recognition and gratitude.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Subject: Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad Thanks Redeemer Lutheran Church for Generous Centennial Donation

The Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad is deeply grateful to Redeemer Lutheran Church for its extraordinarily generous donation of $49,450, presented to the squad as part of the church’s 100th anniversary celebration.

Members of Redeemer Lutheran Church joined rescue squad volunteers at a luncheon held at the squad building to formally present the donation and celebrate the partnership between the church and the Westfield community. The funds will be used to outfit the squad’s Tahoe into a dedicated emergency services vehicle and mobile incident command system, enhancing the squad’s ability to support large-scale emergencies, prolonged incidents, and firefighter rehabilitation operations throughout Westfield.

As part of its centennial year, Redeemer Lutheran Church chose to honor its long-standing commitment to service by supporting a local organization that serves the entire community, regardless of ability to pay. The Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad was selected in recognition of its decades of volunteer-driven emergency care and community service.

“We are incredibly honored to be chosen by Redeemer Lutheran Church during such a meaningful milestone in their history,” said Callie Campbell, President of the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad. “This gift will directly support the transformation of our Tahoe into a critical emergency services and incident command vehicle, strengthening our operational capabilities while reflecting the church’s mission of service, compassion, and community care. We are truly grateful for their generosity and partnership.”

The squad extends its sincere thanks to and its congregation for their generosity, partnership, and unwavering support of the Westfield community.
