How to navigate the world…

“How do we go on living our ordinary, comfortable lives while knowing that terrible suffering is going on every single day for so many people around the world? Can we ever make peace with that suffering?”

It is a brilliant question.
I have struggled with it myself for years.

I do not think you “make peace” with cruelty and violence.
Not today. Maybe never.
And why should you.

Look. I cannot tell you how to grieve or how to fight. I cannot tell you what to do. But I can suggest the following.

Let the suffering of the innocent and the oppressed move you. Let it break your heart. Let it hurt. Deeply. The pain itself means your heart is still working! You are not numb. You are not detached, cold, or indifferent. You are not bypassing your humanity.

You hurt because your brothers and sisters are hurting. You belong to the same river of humanity.

At the same time, you must accept a limit to your hurting, if you can. Remember, you did not cause this horror. You cannot carry all of it without being crushed by it yourself, without being destroyed by the weight of the world’s suffering. You can only carry what is truly yours.

So you choose how and when to engage, as much as possible. When to read. When to watch. When to talk about world events. When to listen. You do this consciously, deliberately.

Grief and anger have to be held in presence, not poured endlessly into your nervous system all day long without limits. That is not compassion. It is a fast track to burnout and helplessness.

So you breathe first. You find your ground. You return to your real responsibility each day. How you speak. How you treat the people around you. How you love your child, your partner, your neighbour. How you refuse to pass unconsciousness onwards. How you refuse to fuel numbness, hatred, or violence in your family, your community, your workplace, your town or city.

You do your own inner work. You look honestly at the violence and prejudice in yourself. You attend to your own childhood wounds. You look at the log in your own eye before pointing at the splinter in your neighbour’s. Healing your own trauma is not a distraction from saving the world. I truly believe it is part of how the world is saved.

And yes, of course, you can still protest. But not as permanent outrage. Not as more hatred layered on top of hatred. You act where action is possible. You show up. You speak. You vote. You give generously. You withhold consent.

And you do not let protest make you cruel! If your protest costs you your capacity to love, the damage has already spread.

And you rest too. You rest when you can. Rest is not a luxury. It is fuel. It is the source of all things.

And you allow joy, without apology and without guilt! Joy is not a betrayal of the cause. Joy is how you stop the violence from taking your soul too.

You shine your light, even when it feels impossibly dark.

And remember, there is no clean or easy way to live with all this. Anyone who says there is is being glib, or trying to sell you comfort way too cheaply. Being deeply affected by the world does not resolve neatly. It does not offer easy closure.

You may never be at peace with all the suffering in the world, but maybe you can make peace with THAT.

Finally, I’d say that it really is fu***ng brave to choose to stay awake, tender, open-hearted and curious in a world that keeps asking you to shut down.

8 Reasons to Join the Reiki Clinic This Sunday?

A simple, affordable way to receive care without committing to a full private session.

A chance to slow your body down (especially if it’s been running on overdrive all week).

You don’t have to “believe” anything or know anything about Reiki to come.

Time set aside where you’re not taking care of anyone else (this is my favorite reason LOL).

A quiet reset before the week begins again.

You will be working with practitioners who are actively training and genuinely present. They are focused and care about doing this well.

You are part of something reciprocal. You will be receiving, while also helping practitioners build skill and confidence.

It’s a gentle way to explore energy work if you’ve been curious but unsure.

Appointments are limited, and once the schedule is full, we cannot add more spots.

Appointment times are 12:00, 12:40, 1:20, 2:00, 2:40, 3:20. You are may enter your preferred time at registration. Times are not guaranteed until you register and The Curious Heart calls you to confirm.

If you’d like to come, register now to reserve your session.

“It is not just your mother who may walk with you in spirit, it is her mother too. And her mother’s mother. And her mother’s friends, who loved by choice and not blood. And the women before them. Generations and generations of female energy, watching in admiration as you forge ahead living better, feeling better, accepting better, than they ever did. As they were much hoped you would.

So, when you feel low, lonely or unloved. Remember them, feel them. They are with you, and they burn brightly with their boundless light, in everything you do. You, my friends, are the ‘moment in time’ of many women gone before, and you will lay pathways, like they did, for those who come up next. “

I drove to CT today for a family constellations training retreat. I asked the angels for a sign…like a big sign.

Along Rt 95, there are billboards for personal injury attorneys, including a few that said “Need help? Call Bert.”
Bert is the name of my grandfather and he was an attorney.

AND, Bert Hellinger is the founder of family constellations.

Couldn’t take a picture of the highway signage, but here’s a photo from Bert’s website. 😃 THANK YOU ANGELS!😇

Last night, Mary Kate and I hosted a Reiki share in the Fanwood space. It was HEART warming to be with so many others who are looking to help, be in community, and share their light. We are going to do this monthly. Reach out to me if interested in attending or learning Reiki.

April 12th we are hosting a Reiki clinic for those who are attuned to Level 2+ and wish to “go pro” and work on others. If you would like to be on the receiving end as a client, we’ve got you covered too. 🌷

“It is where we learn what indigenous traditions have known in different ways: that life is disabling. If a seed must live, it must splinter into the mycelial loam of the soil.”

Twenty years ago, as an undergrad student with a heavy sense of the theological weighing down on my emerging metaphysics, I made this drawing depicting the famed scene in the Garden of Gethsemane where the Christ meets a threshold he cannot turn back from - but wants to.

The Garden scene is on my mind these days. It is where agency shudders and curdles and becomes something stranger. It is where the question "what should I do?" becomes inadequate. It is where the accommodations that held us aloft as pure fall apart. It is where we learn what indigenous traditions have known in different ways: that life is disabling. If a seed must live, it must splinter into the mycelial loam of the soil. To change is to touch the fragile membranous edges of the real. To change is to enter into ritual we cannot design.

I never quite got around to completing the drawing. I left it unfinished. In retrospect, it was a more meaningful gesture than I could have intended. In these times of war, as tearful pleas fall with the weight of secreted blood, may something utterly beyond the scope of our hopes, something molecular, something lurking in the creases of the ordinary, spirit us away into new sensibilities of a world that is never done, never complete.

Never finished.

Reiki for Health & Balance

Since 2004, I have been on a holistic health journey for myself and for my family through the overlapping worlds of autism, ADHD, OCD, depression/anxiety, gut health, food intolerances, adrenal fatigue, mold, and chronic Lyme. I believe we must address the root cause of any illness and not just treat symptoms. This kind of thinking has led me to a broader perspective in health and wellness encompassing physical, mental and spiritual healing. In 2010, I experienced my first Reiki treatment and could not deny the physical detox effect it had on my body. Little did I know that I was detoxing emotions and energies that had been sitting there for years. We each have a physical body and an energy body which are intricately connected. The easiest way to understand this is how you feel when you first meet someone. You know instantly whether you click with them or not; that gut feeling is your energy “body”. When we neglect the energy body or stuff down our emotions, this creates blocks in our life force energy (also called “ki” as in Reiki). I believe keeping our energy balanced and healthy may even be more important than keeping our physical body healthy and strong. If you are interested in learning more or wish to bring your energy into balance, I invite you to experience a Reiki session with me. My intention is to provide quiet and mindful energy healing to all of my clients. Many appreciate the opportunity to just be. I am a White Light Reiki Master/Teacher, a Usui Reiki Master/Teacher and practice Karuna Reiki too. I look forward to being of service in your healing journey.
