It has been a wild ride since Christmas Eve! Many, many, many hours spent supporting 3(🫣!!!) different families as they welcomed their babies🩷🩷🩷 Some highlights: a first time mama who labored with beautiful support from her husband and her own mama. Her labor was long and hard but once it shifted into gear her baby was born in just a handful of pushes! Another family whose baby let us know they needed to move from the home to the hospital and landing with a hospital team who was patient and wildly supportive. This family moved through all of the twists and turns of this labor with so much love, grace, and gentleness. I was constantly in awe of them through it all. And finally a mama who welcomed her 2nd baby with a labor very similar to her first-her support team included her own mama who flew in from across the ocean, her husband who spent many hours setting up the most magical birth space, his parents who loved on their big kid so mama could focus on her work, and her doula from her first birth who has since become family to her, her sweet babe was born en caul and received into her grandmothers hands🩷 I am WIPED. And deliriously grateful for this magical work I get to do. Thanks to .e.davis.cpm for taking all my calls and texts and coming to support me and these families when needed🩷 And all my thanks and love to my own family who gave up their Christmas and have been holding down the fort at home. Community midwifery requires a true village that is based in deep trust and understanding and I am endlessly humbled by my own little village🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

I spent Christmas Eve night and all Christmas Day and night getting to help welcome 2 new humans earthside🩷❤️ I have another family working hard today, hoping to welcome their baby tonight sometime🩷 So a seaside hotel room that allows me to be much closer to this family and gives me a comfy bed to catch some much needed sleep until they are ready for my company! So grateful for this wild, exhausting, deeply fulfilling life I get to live✨💖🌊🎉

Waking from a nap feeling so incredibly grateful for this wild work I get to do❤️ After working SO HARD for several days and nights this first time mama pushed her babe into papas waiting hands. I am in absolute awe of this families patience, their deep belief and trust in the process of birth, and their ability to have the best sense of humor through every single moment of it all! 40 hours at their sides and they had me laughing through every moment! This fresh little human hit the parent jackpot! And a shoutout and gratitude for .e.davis.cpm who showed up in the final stretch with fresh energy, snacks, and multiple sources of caffeine❤️ And lastly, midwives families are a silent supporter who too often don’t get the credit due-thanks to my 2 kiddos at home who jumped in and took care of the home, 3 dogs and each other so I could be fully present with this family-and are still doing extra so I can sleep it off today! They are incredible and I truly could not be present and available to my clients if they weren’t so generous with their own time and energy-thanks my babes!!🩷🩷🩷

It looks mild and peaceful…but the highway was a different story! Prenatals rescheduled after attempting to head out but seeing *so many* cars sliding into the median. If you’re a client you know I’ve been talking about “yak tracks” and the importance of taking that safety measure once winter hits..well, it’s timeeeeee!😂🌨️❄️🧊(Is it just me or are these New England roads way worse than WI ones!? I’ve never seen so many cars sliding around like that!)

This week has been full of consults and initial prenatal visits. It is always so fun to just be entering chilly fall weather, planning for winter and already be thinking about these sweet babes who will join us as the earth starts to thaw🌱 I am overwhelmed with gratitude to get to midwife my community🩷🩷🩷

I cannot believe that I get to go hang out at families homes, have coffee with them while we chat about all the discomfort and joys of pregnancy, feel growing babies and listen to their sweet little hearts, then stop on the way home for a seaside walk on the first fall day with sunlight streaming down✨✨✨As a Midwest girl I wasn’t sure I’d find home anywhere else-but I’m never leaving, y’all are stuck with me out here🩷 #

Rainy day at home preparing for upcoming clients🩷 And I am officially a NH Medicaid provider now!! The state of healthcare insurance in this country is an absolute racket and there’s a huge piece of me that does not want to be affiliated with it at all-and realistically this is what we have to work with at the moment. I became a midwife to be able to give really good care to those in my community who desire it and taking Medicaid makes it accessible for more families, it’s one step I can take to live my values and show up for my community.

Good mail day! My practice has taken off and it’s time to start prepping for client due dates!🩷 Changing up how I have historically offered pools-I used to bring the pool with me but that resulted in occasionally a baby arriving before we could set it up! Now I’ll have several pool sets on hand and I’ll leave one with each client at 36 weeks-that way as soon as labor starts you can start preparing it for active labor:) So excited to think of all the babies who will be welcomed into the world in these very pools! Thanks to Marissa Davis for the pool kit inspiration (and alllllll the links!😂

Families considering home birth for the first time often ask me what is so different about care with a home birth midwife vs a hospital based provider. Imagine your pregnancy provider being the same person who does each and every prenatal visit, the same person who sits with you through hours of labor-monitoring your baby and your health, but also holding your hand through some of the tough moments. That same provider then shows up to provide all of your postpartum care while you hang out in your own bed with your baby. This is home birth🩷 Continuity of care. Knowing the person you got to know throughout your pregnancy care is going to be the one with you through the thick of labor and postpartum. It means feeling truly known and seen and heard. 📸Photo shared with permission
