Many years ago, the American Occupational Therapy Association did an ad campaign to tell people about the role of OTs. There were 4 different ads. The pediatric one still moves me and has hung in my office—no matter where I’ve been working—ever since.

Sometimes, discerning the difference between a “picky eater” and a problem feeder can be difficult. I am excited to announce that I have completed training in Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) through the Tourette Association of America.

CBIT is a non-drug treatment consisting of three important components:

1. Training the patient to be more aware of tics

2. Training patients to do competing behavior when they feel the urge to tic

3. Making changes to day-to-day activities in ways that can be helpful in reducing tics

Many teachers use graph paper to help students line up numbers for math problems, but did you know that graph paper can be really helpful for kids who have difficulty with sizing and spacing when printing? One letter per square and skip a square between words. You can purchase or download graph paper with any size squares you want. If your child tends to have large letters that take up a lot of space, your first inclination might be to give them more room. In reality, this kind of writer tends to fill the space they are given. Try going smaller with your square size. I promise you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
