It's normal to want to help those you care about by fixing the things that cause them pain. So often times though, we struggle to find the right solutions for others.

Is okay to slow down and not know what to do. Just listen. Take in their words, emotions, and experience. Show that you care and understand.

Empathy is about how you show up, not about how you solve problems.

As with all things in life, perspective matters.

When each individual looks at this sun, they view it as a sun that is beginning to rise or set. That is their perspective -- their reality.

I remember the time of day I took the photo and if this was a sun rising or setting. That is my perspective -- my reality.

The direction of the sun at that particular moment isn't really important. What matters is that at any given time, we all can see the same things through different lenses, different perspectives.

When we take the time to learn about the perspective of others, it is then when we can learn about their realities.

Enjoying a browse of a vintage handbook of psychological terms from the late 1960s. 📖

So many terms and ideas in psychology have stayed relatively the same over the last 50-years. However, a handful of other ideas are irrelevant or even offensive by today's standards. This highlights how as our knowledge and understanding of ideas, people, and society changes, so too does our language. 💭💬

"Good enough" -- an important concept that can be hard to define and looks different for everyone. So, what does good enough mean, then?

Does it mean you don't try your best? You stop trying to improve? You settle for things that make you unhappy?

Nope. 👇

"Good enough" means putting in your best effort with the knowledge and experience you have in that moment.

"Good enough" means knowing that there's room for improvement, and you're learning.

"Good enough" means practicing compassion and acceptance -- even when you want more from yourself or a situation.

So often do we get the message that taking a break is the opposite of being productive. Or even that breaks are a "waste of time." Let's take a moment to redefine how we look at breaks and productivity. Pushing yourself to be productive can be beneficial, but is often not sustainable and can lead to burn out. Taking time to relax and recharge allows you to come back to refreshed and ready to keep going. Not to mention how far this will go for managing stress and promoting your well-being.

Remember, taking a break IS productive. 😌
