Opening Day was a home run here at Carroll Lutheran Village!

Our culinary team stepped up to the plate with a fun, flavor-packed dinner to celebrate the return of Baltimore Orioles baseball. From ballpark-inspired favorites to festive touches throughout the dining room, the energy was just as exciting as game day at Camden Yards.

Residents got into the spirit, too—sporting their Orioles gear, sharing memories of seasons past, and cheering on the team together.

It’s more than just a meal—it’s moments like these that bring our community together. Play ball!

How has working in social work transformed YOU?

Cassidy's answer:
While I have yet to work in social work beyond being an intern, aspiring to be a social work professional has transformed me in many ways. Social work has made me a more compassionate and understanding person both professionally and personally. Through social work I have learned so much about understanding others and where they are coming from in the good and bad times. I have learned to be supportive in both direct and indirect ways. Social work has transformed me for the better.

Thank you for all you do!

How have you seen residents transform after moving to CLV?

Kelly's answer:
I’ve seen many residents truly thrive after moving to CLV. They often gain a renewed sense of connection, confidence and purpose- whether by forming new friendships, engaging in activities or feeling supported enough to take on challenges they once avoided. Over time, many residents show improved emotional well-being and a renewed sense of hope. Many also experience a sense of relief once they settle in, knowing they’re in a place where their needs are understood and supported. I’ve seen so many moves to CLV change residents lives for the better.

We appreciate all you do!

What does defending resident dignity mean to you?

Amber's answer:
Social work as a profession has the core values of service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. As a social worker I take these core values to heart and keep them in mind as I work. One of my main responsibilities as a social worker at Carroll Lutheran Village is to advocate for my residents and defending resident dignity is part of that. Everyone has inherent dignity and worth. Being in a position of living in a healthcare center/ needing help can be vulnerable. Residents in this situation can maintain their dignity by participating in their care, dressing in clothes they like, making choices about how they spend their day, being called by their preferred name and much more. These sometimes “small” things add up. Defending resident dignity to me means that I am part of making my residents feel seen and respected.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬?

𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞'𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫:
As a rehab social worker in the Health Care Center, I advocate for my residents by ensuring their voices are heard and their goals remain a priority. I collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team to address psychosocial needs, remove barriers to discharge, and connect residents and families with appropriate community resources. Whether I am coordinating with the therapy dept., nursing team or facilitating family meetings, I work to protect residents’ rights and promote their dignity, autonomy and overall well-being. Advocating in my role also looks like providing emotional support, helping residents navigate complicated healthcare systems and empowering them to make informed decisions about their care and future.

We appreciate all you do!
