Just celebrated my 100th case using Boston Scientific's farapulse system. Pulse field technology has been absolutely revolutionary for our field and I am grateful to be surrounded by an amazing team. Looking forward to the next 100.

One of the best parts of my position is the opportunity to participate in the training of current and future doctors.

Today both Dr Wordak (internal medicine resident) and Rohan (University of Florida premed) were treated to four left bundle pacemakers - the first one having a rare congenital anatomic difference.

Had a great time training in the use of a technology called “pulse field ablation.” It’s exciting to have the chance to bring this back home to sunny South Florida.

This energy modality will likely replace the heat/ice based energy we use in today’s procedures. It has the potential to turn a one hour ablation into a mere minutes - while increasing the safety profile.

Pig models are used because of the similarities in their cardiac anatomy. Spoiler alert: she was perfectly fine post procedure … and will likely never get atrial fibrillation in the rest of her life.

Had a great time debating my friend, Dr Craig Moskowitz, at Medtronic’s “Emerging Leaders in Electrophysiology“ conference this past weekend.

We discussed approaches to treating patients with Atrial Fibrillation - the most common arrhythmia in this country.

Who won? We both did - went for dinner right after this pic was taken.

When it comes to cardiac ablations, using the St. Jude “High-Density” Grid catheter makes it infinitely easier.

This catheter is able to sample 64 points per second to create high resolution maps to track down the source of the arrhythmia.

The procedure cured the patient from incessant PVCs and took less than 60 minutes

Exercise is always a good thing for the heart, right? 🫀

Life isn’t black and white, and neither is the relationship between exercise and atrial fibrillation (and other abnormal heart rhythms).

Being obese and sedentary is a very bad thing overall regarding heart health; however, long distance endurance exercise 🏃‍♂️ can also increase your risk for arrhythmias.⚡️

The thinking is that both extremes can cause systemic inflammation and the formation of fibrosis (scarring) in the heart.

Atrial Fibrillation is a complex animal. It originates in the left atrium (pictured) 🫀and a whole multitude of factors goes towards producing it.

The challenge of managing this condition has slowly turned into one of my passions.

One size DOES NOT fit all - you have to approach each patient with a different game plan.

Raise your hand 🙋‍♂️ below if you or someone you know has had this condition ⬇️
