Jason wrote a beautiful tribute to our sweet girl, Ziggy:
⸻
This morning we said goodbye to our skittish little girl Ziggy. It was sudden and unexpected but now she won’t be in any pain.
Our family, and everyone that knew her, loved the funny dog that hated being in the rain but truly enjoyed being in the snow. I’m going to miss her sitting under my desk while I work and having her glued to my side, terrified, whenever she heard a lawnmower or leaf blower. And we’re all going to miss her constant and endless desire to lick (or almost lick) our faces, and having her relentlessly back up into our legs until we had no choice other than to scratch her butt.
The only thing that brought her more joy than those two things was spending time in HER garden, where no other dogs could go, and where she could steal tomatoes right off the vine.
No one will miss her more than Otis, her partner in crime for almost 10 years. Ziggy didn’t really like other dogs (nothing mean or aggressive, they just made her nervous), but Otis was her best friend. Since the day they met, the two of them would spend lazy days in the yard until Ziggy would give the signal, at which point Otis would joyfully chase her around and around the outside of our house, only stopping when one of them eventually ran out of steam. Panting and exhausted they would go back inside where they would happily share a sun spot for a nap.
Ziggy had a rough start to her life, but since she came into our lives 9 and a half years ago she showed us nothing but love and brought joy and innocence to our home every day.
We returned every bit of that love and surrounded her with an environment that we can only hope brought some comfort to her busy mind.
She’s at peace now, hopefully with the full knowledge that everyone who met her knew she was the sweetest girl who deserved all the butt scratches she wanted.
Rest easy Ziggy, there’s nothing more to be afraid of. Eat all the tomatoes you want and say hi to Fluery - you guys are going to be the best of friends.
