It was a full house at Maplewood at Strawberry Hill today as they welcomed the Lifetime Learners Institute from CT State Community College. Presenters Fay Ruotolo, Mandy Teare, and Gary Bischoff introduced residents from both Strawberry Hill and Maplewood at Darien to a range of upcoming educational programs designed for adult learners.

The interest was immediate: many residents are already preparing to register for classes. It was a meaningful way to highlight how continued learning brings energy, purpose, and shared enthusiasm to our communities.

Maplewood at Orange proudly honored the veterans within our community during a heartfelt ceremony in collaboration with Connecticut Hospice. Each veteran received a certificate and pin, recognizing their service, sacrifice, and dedication to our country.

Residents, families, and associates gathered to reflect on the extraordinary courage demonstrated by these individuals and the lasting impact of their contributions. It was a moving tribute to the strength, resilience, and personal histories that continue to enrich our community.

Maplewood at Newtown hosted a meaningful Veterans Day ceremony recognizing resident veterans whose service spans multiple generations, from World War II to the Korean and Vietnam eras. The room was filled with red, white, and blue as families, residents, associates, and local dignitaries gathered to celebrate their courage and dedication to our nation.

The event featured an invocation and benediction from Monsignor Robert Weiss, a moving performance of “Taps,” and the Pledge of Allegiance recited together—a shared moment of pride and reflection. Our veterans’ journeys represent resilience, sacrifice, and a profound love of country, and their legacy continues to inspire our community each day.

We’re reflecting on a wonderful moment from last month: an Oktoberfest celebration. Residents enjoyed traditional Bavarian folk music on the accordion, German beer, and classic dishes including soft pretzels with mustard and bratwurst with sauerkraut. Many even dressed for the occasion, wearing Alpine hats, braids, lederhosen, and dirndls.

Events like these honor cultural traditions while strengthening connection, sparking conversation, and enriching community life.
