When’s the last time you mobilized your chest? Massage therapists can’t seem to shut up about opening the chest, and it’s for good reason! When we are hunching and forward leaning for long periods of time, the muscles of the chest are fixed in a shortened position. This internal rotation of the shoulders combined with the flexion of the neck contributes to a lot of strain on the muscles of the posterior neck and upper back! It’s hard to reverse this posture if the pecs are constantly tight. This stretch, in addition to soft tissue release work, is a great step in the right direction of reversing this forward leaning posture.
