Today at Ashton Commons, our residents learned how to make origami hearts—and each one turned out as unique as the person who created it. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the room was filled with smiles, laughter, and plenty of pink paper.

Our residents are already asking which origami creation we’ll try next! From first folds to finished hearts, it was a joyful reminder that creativity has no limit. 💕

We welcomed Mark Macedonia back to our community for another very informative history presentation entitled “America’s Antebellum Anxiety" (the 19th century events leading to the outbreak of the Civil War).

Mark is an author, retired high school social studies teacher and now a history teacher at both La Roche University and University of Pittsburgh. 👨‍🏫 His parents reside at Ashton Commons!

On this visit, one of our staff members recognized Mark, who was his high school history teacher many years ago. They had the chance to catch up and took a photo together! 📸

Our monthly Show and Tell Program did not disappoint this week! Residents shared their prized treasures, including a set of 100 years old wooden golf clubs, a picture that is 200 years old, a ticker tape machine from the early 1900s, and Tibetan Singing Bowls (which we learned how to use!). What a wonderful afternoon spent learning with friends!

Cyndie C. from the Allegheny County Government District Attorney's office visited Ashton Commons this week for a very informative presentation: Scams and Fraud - What You Need to Know and Avoid.

The room was filled with residents eager to learn about what they should do if they believe they're confronting a fraud or scam.

Residents learned about check washing and skimmers (even got a chance to see a real skimmer). They also learned about what to do when receiving an unusual phone call or email.

Cyndie answered questions and stayed after the program to speak to a few folks individually. We are so grateful Cyndie took the time to discuss this important issue with our community.

What a delightful way to ring in the New Year at Ashton Commons!
Our New Year’s Eve celebration took place during the dinner hour and was filled with great music, joyful moments, and plenty of cheer. Residents enjoyed lively entertainment by The Joe & Jackie Show, followed by a festive countdown and a celebratory champagne toast to welcome the year ahead.

Staying informed is one of the best ways to stay safe. Ashton Commons invites residents and guests to join us for an educational presentation on scams and fraud, led by Cyndie Carioli, Senior Justice Advocate with the Allegheny County District Attorney's office.
During this session, attendees will learn about the latest scams targeting older adults, receive practical tips for protecting themselves, and hear about current fraud alerts and warning signs to watch for. Questions and discussion are encouraged, making this an engaging and informative opportunity for everyone.

🐷 What a PIG-tastic day! Our community was overjoyed to welcome Birch, the adorable piglet from Tree Family Party Piggies! He played piano tunes, created a painting for us, and happily accepted belly scratches. 🎹🎨 Residents even took turns feeding him juicy apples! 🍏 So much laughter and joy filled the room—truly special moments!

🎶 What a joyous day! The amazing 4th and 5th-grade chorus students from Hosack Elementary School & Ingomar Elementary School filled our halls with holiday cheer during their beautiful music concerts! 🎤🎵 They also sweetened the day by sharing delicious cookies and handmade cards! 🍪 Thank you, talented performers, for spreading kindness and making this season a little merrier for all of us.

Today we hosted our First Annual Paper Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest, and it was every bit as fun as it sounds! Residents created their own “sweaters” using paint, stickers, cotton, pom-poms, and other festive embellishments.

A panel of judges—made up of both residents and team members—cheered on the contestants as they proudly paraded their masterpieces. Prizes were awarded for Most Festive, Most Creative, and, of course, Overall Ugliest.

✨ A special shout-out to our winner of the Overall Ugliest Sweater—the resident sporting the gray sweater with the big “AC” for Ashton Commons!
