Postpartum support is often framed as optional — something you consider only if you’re struggling enough.

But postpartum is a time of healing, adjustment, and deep transition. Support during this season isn’t a luxury. It’s necessary.

Needing help doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It means you’re honoring what your body and mind are moving
through. Support can look different for every family. What matters is having care that helps lessen the load and creates space for rest, recovery, and connection.

If this resonates with you, you’re not alone. 💚

Starting this new month with a renewed sense of purpose, presence, and care. 🌿

Hi, I’m Stephanie, the doula behind Village Birth & Beyond. With over 15 years of supporting families and 9+ years in perinatal work, I’ve attended over 60 births and supported 50+ families during the postpartum period.

My passion for postpartum support comes from lived experience. I know firsthand how overwhelming this time can feel, how hard it can be to ask for help, and how easy it is to carry more than you should. Over the years, I’ve learned that postpartum deserves just as much attention and support as birth itself.

At Village Birth & Beyond, I offer compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each family's needs, with a focus on overnight postpartum support. I serve families in Greater Boston and the South Shore, ensuring no one feels alone in their journey.

If you’re expecting, newly postpartum, or simply exploring what support could look like for you, feel free to message or email me anytime.

Mom’s who are struggling look a lot like mom’s who are not struggling.

My postpartum is a blur. I had a very hard time asking for help. I took on way too much and always carried way too big of mental load, fearing that asking for help would make me weak. Looking back, I seriously regret this. I wish I took the time to soak it all in rather than look like a superhero who could do it all.

Often, we focus so much on the labor + delivery aspect of motherhood and not enough on the postpartum period. This was me to a T. I felt like “this is my job, so I know what I’m doing. This is going to be a breeze. I’ve been taking care of babies my entire life”. The birth of your baby IS important, but so are the many, many months afterwards.

My drive and passion for the postpartum period comes from a place of wanting to do better for others than I did for myself. When I enter a home in the postpartum period, I strive to lessen the load, whatever that load may be. I’ve learned to read a room very well and can make myself useful even when I am not given direction. Simply because I know how hard it can be to ask for help when you are overwhelmed.

I have been asked many times “what is within the scope of a postpartum doula?”  and I always answer back “postpartum support looks different for all families, what makes your life easier? Look at me as an extension of yourself”. I have yet to say no to a request if it means I’m helping parents slow their mind and body down and soak in the small stuff.

Moral of the story: normalize asking for help 😉

You know when you ask how a mama is doing right after giving birth and you get this response;

“mom and baby are happy & healthy “

Well this is not and should not be the end of the story. After the “newness” and excitement wears off, often times new mothers feel overwhelmed, isolated, lonely and lost. Check in on your besties!

Accepting help can be tough for most, but here’s some ways you can support the mamas in your life…

✨cook a nourishing meal
✨ help with household chores
✨ take older kids for a playdate
✨ praise her and ask about her birthing experience
✨ hold the baby while she takes a shower and naps
✨ offer a night shift or two
✨ ask whats on her to-do list
✨ don’t overstay your welcome

If you feel like the new mama in your life needs more support than you can give, consider gifting her a few shifts with a postpartum doula.

DM or click on the link in bio for more information on gifting postpartum support. After all, it takes a village 😉

A postpartum doula is someone who provides emotional, practical and informational support to a mother and their family after baby is born.

The investment you make in yourself, in the window of time after birth can have a life-long positive impact.

There is so much value to having a postpartum doula, even if you have family nearby. It separates any stress family may cause or stress you feel by asking your family for help.

A PP doula can be hired for one day, multiple days, weeks, months, overnight, etc. Whatever suits your needs during this time.

hi! For those who don’t know my name is Stephanie Bythrow and I’m the founder of Village. I started my journey of being a doula over 5 years ago, but my passion of all things birth and babies started earlier than I can even remember. Being the oldest sibling and cousin of a big, close knit family the caretaker role has always been who I am. I starting nannying when I was in my late teens and watched as their family grew and felt so much joy knowing I had a hand in that. Flash forward a few years I was married, overcame a major health issue and became a mother to our wild 3 year old. I’m now in a space to share what I’ve learned along the way and want to help you feel confident, heard and ready to embark on this journey. Here’s a little more about me ..

• I didn’t have the pregnancy journey I alway imagined but it’s enabled me to really see how sacred pregnancy and motherhood is

• my best friends and I group text constantly, mostly of TikTok recipes

• I’m always on the go but never to busy to catch up on bravo

• I can name almost every dinosaur.. moms of toddlers; if you know, you know

• I’ve never been to a brewery I didn’t like

• my first baby is a yellow lab

Think we would be a good fit? Let me know if you can relate!
