Our childbirth education program Preparing for Labor and Parenthood is taking a week off and will not meet Monday, March 30.

The series resumes on Monday, April 6 with the topic Preparing for the Unexpected in Labor.

Join Melissa DiNunno, DNP, CNM, RN for this informative, virtual program covering all aspects of pregnancy, labor, childbirth, breastfeeding, and early parenting.

Classes are held via WebEx Monday evenings at 6 p.m. and attendance for all six sessions is not required -- simply sign up and drop in!

Our next Ready for Breastfeeding class will be held in person Sunday, March 29 from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

If you're planning to breastfeed, this informative prenatal program can help get you and your baby off to a smooth start.

Board-certified lactation consultants and experienced nurses teach proper positioning, feeding frequency, how to read your baby's hunger signs, the importance of skin-to-skin contact and offer helpful hints for a successful breastfeeding experience.

South Shore Health's Prenatal Aquatic Fitness program is a great way for expectant moms to improve core strength, condition the musculature used during pregnancy and birth, ease lower back pain and boost energy levels.

Classes are led by an exercise therapist in an 83-degree pool with sessions held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. The cost is $40 per month for four classes.

Our next Virtual Childbirth Preparation class will be held in two sessions and meets Wednesday, April 1 and Wednesday, April 8 from 6 to 9:15 p.m.

This informative course helps prepare new parents for the labor and birth process as well as post-partum recovery. Learn breathing and relaxation techniques and guided imagery exercises for labor, as well as information about breastfeeding and newborn care.

Our next Newborn Essentials class will be held in-person Wednesday, March 25 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

This informative, hands-on class teaches new parents diapering basics, umbilical cord care, and proper infant positioning, as well as ways to comfort your crying baby, guidelines for safe infant sleep and car seat safety essentials.

Partners are welcome and encouraged to attend, but do not need to register. The class will be held in the OB Classrooms A & B, located on the second floor of South Shore Hospital.

At South Shore Hospital, we recommend the Golden Hour to all birthing parents and newborns who are medically stable.

If you're having challenges with breastfeeding, you're not alone. Our Lactation Support Group can give you the guidance you need for a smooth start to breastfeeding your baby.

Led by nurses certified in lactation counseling, this in-person support group covers breastfeeding basics and beyond. You do not need to have given birth at South Shore Hospital to attend.

Our breastfeeding support group meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and is for nursing moms only, guests and co-parents cannot attend the sessions.
