Risk doesn’t only exist during the meal, it often increases during transitions.

When meals are ending.
When children get up from the table.
When attention shifts between tasks.

Many choking incidents happen in these in-between moments.

Practical choking prevention tips, like seated eating, minimizing distractions, and supervising until meals are fully finished, help reduce risk before a choking emergency ever begins.

Prevention is built into everyday routines.

An airway obstruction doesn’t always begin dramatically.

In many choking emergencies, airflow becomes restricted before visible distress escalates. Recognizing the progression early can influence how quickly a response begins.

Understanding airway obstruction is part of responsible emergency preparedness, especially in environments where children or older adults are present.

Preparedness is built before it’s needed.

Our Story

Introduce new peace of mind into your home and your daily life with the Dechoker, a life-saving device that is easy to use in an emergency. This innovative approach to treating choking — one of the most common causes of accidental death in the world — is providing reassurance to families around the world. Learn more about how the Dechoker works and why it could save countless lives.

The Dechoker Story

According to the National Safety Council, choking is the fourth leading cause of accidental death in the world, affecting children and the elderly most of all. Choking can so often be fatal, but death can also be preventable in many cases.

Standard first aid treatments for choking can be difficult to perform in an emergency. Abdominal thrusting and — in more extreme cases — tracheotomy procedures come with their own risks and dangers. In 2009, Dechoker inventor Alan Carver decided there had to be a better option.
